It’s a Play Date…

I am very honored that I was asked to play along with the crew of Play Date Cafe. These ladies are fabulously talented and I had a lot of fun creating with this challenge.

This week’s challenge {sponsored by Limelight Papercrafts}…
pdcc32-1

The one question that I get asked A LOT is “how do you start your design process?” In truth, most of the time I don’t even think about it, but on this card I did so I thought that I would share. I have to admit that I was quite intimidated when I saw the colors for this challenge. I thought that they looked great together, but would probably have never chosen them in combination on my own. I tried not to let that interfere with getting started, so I thought about 2 things before I even brought the colors into the mix. First, since I was a little fearful of the pastel combination, I thought that it would be best to stick with an image that required little coloring or a sentiment. Second, I thought about a layout and how I could incorporate pastel embellishments into the layout. This is how it came out…

playdatecafeguest

I gotta say that I like it {wink}. It made me think that even if there is an element that I don’t have confidence with myself with, I can make it a strong element by choosing the other “pieces” of the card correctly. Be sure to check out the challenge post on the Play Date Cafe blog HERE, where you will also find the DT member’s fabby creations.

Skipping Stones Design Sketch…

Posted by Jen | Guest Designer, Skipping Stones Design, cards, challenges | Wednesday, May 26, 2010

Wednesday greetings! Today Tony is playing in the Colonial Pro-Am! Wowzas, how cool is that? He was supposed to be a caddy for a co-worker, but his co-worker got hurt and he was put into the spotlight of playing! Last night was the “Pairing Party” and he got paired with Kevin Na. I guess there were a few other pros to choose from, but his group voted for an early tee time. He said that he will be blogging about it here soon. Remember when he used to blog every month? Hopefully, we will be seeing the return of that soon! As for today, be crossing your fingers for him.

As one of the May Guest Designers for Skipping Stones Design, I have another sketch to share with you this week…

Here’s my take on it using Dandelion Dreams and Rustic Tiles
ssd4_butterflykisses

I used satin ribbon that I ruffled between the 2 main image panels. I really like the look of the distressed white paper with white stitching on top of the white base. I used the texture of this panel, rather than colors to create a layer that adds “pop.” The brown felt butterfly is from Heidi Swapp and I think I have had those in my stash for about a year. The butterfly’s “path” was created with a rhinestone swirl.

I hope you have a wonderful day!

Check out the Blog Candy for a Cause on Nikki Schmaltz’s blog!!

Greetings and TGIF! On Monday it seemed like it should have been Friday already and now that it’s Friday, I’m sitting here thinking “Already!?” This morning I am doing my glucose tolerance test…blech! I am now 27 weeks along and feeling great! I am HUGE already, but thoroughly enjoying my pregnancy. I don’t have any new pics to show, but when I do I will be sure to share.

Today, I am being introduced as one of the October Guest Designers on the Prism Blog. I created a “Boo Box” for the blog post. Here is a lil’ sneak peek of my design {full pics of this project on the Prism blog}…

Here’s another project that I created using Prism Papers…

I created this little bag as a giftie for one of Ellie’s teachers. I started with a piece of kraft cardstock measuring 9″ x 6″. Along the 6″ side, I scored at 1.5″, 4.5″ and 6″. Along the 9″ side, I scored the paper at 1.5″. This created a bag that measured 1.5″ on the sides, 3″ on the front and back and 1.5″ depth. I used my Nestabilities to create the window in the front, which is lined with acetate on the inside. For added detail, I created a handle and flag-ended the ends and added buttons tied off with twine. The apple is from a die cut sheet from Cosmo Cricket that I have been hoarding and the sentiment {also flag-ended} is from Papertrey. The sides are embossed with the Argyle Cuttlebug embossing folder. Finally, I filled the bag up with some yummies…Werther’s.

Prism Paper used: White Prismatic (W031-D), Blush Red Dark (R049-E), Spring Willow Medium (G431-D), Kraft BR270-D

EDITED TO ADD…
My comments are apparently not working on my blog at this time {noon on Friday}, but should be {better be} up later tonight!

EDITED TO ADD… some more…
Everything is working again!

Sketch For You To Try & A Chance To Win…

See deets way below!

Greetings from North TX. I am actually writing this early, knowing that I will be on a plane this morning heading to a quick visit with my parents this weekend. I am looking forward to seeing them and basking in the Arizona sun. For those of you that don’t know, I spent many of my younger years in the Valley of the Sun…a.k.a. Phoenix. I went to 3 of the 4 years of high school out there and then went on to graduate from Arizona State University. After college I needed a change and decided to move to San Diego. At the time of the decision, I had no place to live and no job. EEK! Well, I didn’t end up on the street panhandling. I ended up answering an ad that stated that there was a room for rent in downtown San Diego with utilities included. Wanna know who my landlord was?…the one and only…Tony! We’ve now been married for 6 years! I ended up finding a job, too. I guess everything worked out.

EDIT: The trip is a NO GO! The stars have not aligned and we will not be going. I am BUMMED! Ellie is sniffly and sneezy, I am still not 100% so it just isn’t going to work out. Whhaaaa! (yep, I really did cry!)

Onto this week’s SKETCH FOR YOU TO TRY

Here’s my take on the sketch using Prism Papers and a Papertrey stamp…

I had heard that Prism papers work like a dream in electronic die cutting machines. It’s true! The blade cuts through them like buttah!! As you can see, I continue to be addicted to my Spook Alley design card for the Slice!

A couple of detail shots of the glittery punched pieces I added…
