Opening Weekend…

Posted by Jen | Verve, cards, challenges, designer of the month | Saturday, August 30, 2008

Is anyone else excited that it’s opening weekend for college football. Two words: BOOMER SOONER! I know I hear Carole’s echo! I am actually not Sooner born and bred, rather Sooner wed. I went to Arizona State, so I will also be cheering on my Sun Devils…who just happen to be coming into this season with a fairly good ranking {15, I think}. So, who are your rooting for?

I started making my card with the new Meet The Verve Diva challenge in mind. Michelle has challenged everyone to create a card with some supplies that are underloved. Hmmm…where do I begin? The embellishments, the stamps, the chipboard…the list goes on. I know you know what I mean. If you are shaking your head, it is possible that you are in denial. LOL!

Before I get to the card I made, let’s see the sketch…

As I kinda eluded to, I have plenty to choose from in the way of unloved goods. So, what did I choose? I chose some vinyl appliques {those swirly thingamajingys} from ScrapWorks that I picked up a couple of months ago at the Great American Scrapbook Convention. I used Kraft paper, which is something that I am trying to do more and more. The Prima flowers are from a share that Jody had and I never go for the bold colors…especially black. I also picked up some acetate that I rarely use and the stamp is a Verve Stamps sentiment that I have not used yet.

Bonnie Sharp has been with us all month long and I have truly enjoyed each and one of her creations. Please give her a standing ovation as she leaves us with this totally cute card!…

Wanna see more samples using this sketch? Check out Amy R., Amy S., Shannan and Susan’s blogs. Carole made some weak excuse and won’t be posting until Sunday {she knows I’m kidding!!}.

Also, I want to ***wave hello*** to all the ladies that took my class at Imprints last night. I got to meet some really wonderful women and we had a lot of fun. They’re probably blaming me for a wee bit of enabling, too! ;) I am setting up more classes in October and will let you know as soon as they are all firmed up.

ABC Friday~ Lil’ Notebooks…

Posted by Jen | ABC Friday, projects | Friday, August 29, 2008

I posted a bunch-o-samples of The Cat’s Pajamas cards yesterday because TODAY IS THE DAY OF THEIR RELEASE. Head on over and see what goodness is in store!

Last year {yes, you read that correctly} I got a bunch of little notebooks for a dime a piece at Walgreens. They measure 4″x6″ and are just the perfect size for quick altering. For the past few years, I have been making notebooks for Tony’s cousins. This year one is in 9th grade and the other is in 4th. I can’t believe how fast they have grown up!! They are the sweetest girls and I was happy to send these to them earlier this week…

For Korynn (9th grader with a fun and funky edge)…

The skull is from Pink Paislee and the Notebook Paper is from Cornish Heritage Farms. I finally got me some “Thickers” {those letter stickers that you see}. LOVEEE ‘em!

This is for Kristyn, the younger of the two…

Those fun black and white polka letters are from Making Memories…LOVEEE ‘em, too!!

The bracket-y {have no idea what to call that shape!} panel is from a tag book that I got at Michael’s from K&Co. I am awaiting my Nestabilities in the same shape!!…what I spent my bday $$ on.

See you manana for a Sketch For You To Try!

Happy Birthday To You, Happy Birthday To You, Or…

…as Ellie sang the other day, “Happy Birthday Cake To You…” She never ceases to make me crack up!

If you haven’t heard all the buzz yet, the new The Cat’s Pajamas release is tomorrow. Tomorrow also happens to be the day that I am teaching a Copic class with these fantablulous designs, too {class is full!}. I can’t tell you how much fun I had playing with these! If you want to see more samples, check out the rest of the DT Member’s blogs. While you’re here, enjoy these ;)

And, my favoritest of the bunch… Grown Up?… {folks, that is not DP…it’s a stamp!!}

We’re off to “Meet The Teacher” this morning. Ellie starts her little program next week. I was so excited about extra stamping time until I found out that Tony doesn’t have class those days. I told him that he needs to find something to do part of the time so I can have my time {love ya, honey!}. I’m sure hours on the golf course will be absolute torture! LOL! I’ll be back tomorrow with some cute little notebooks that I made for Tony’s cousins. Have a great day and if you are here in N. TX, try not to melt!

Isn’t That Cute?…

Before I get to my card, I wanna tell you a cute little Ellie story {two, actually}…

The other day I was changing her diaper and she said, “Mommy, I tooted.” I replied, “Well, I think you did a lot more than toot.” To that she followed up with, “Yep, lotsa toots-es.” That made me laugh!!

So a few days ago we went to Wal-Mart and someone pulling out of one of the parallel handicap spots almost hit us {in the car}. Unfortunately, my mouth spoke faster than my brain could think “Ellie is in the car!!” She said, “Bad Momma, no yelling at people! Say sorry!” So I said, “Sorry for yelling at people,” but did not address what I said thinking that she would forget. Last night we were on the phone with Grandmama and asked Ellie to tell her why I had to say sorry. Does she say “Momma, yell at people.”? NOPE she says, “Momma God Damnit.” Grandmama almost lost it I think {laughing}. I can only imagine the 100 shades of red my face was!

Sorry about the curses! Now onto the real deal for today…

It’s TCP Tuesday and Katie has chosen the cute Baby Train stamp for us to use this week. I did not have this stamp until just yesterday. I’ve always admired it, but waited to get it. Now, I am glad I did! It’s hard to believe that I actually was able to resist a baby stamp, especially a TCP one! This card uses Julee’s Mojo Monday Sketch from this week. I tried to do something a little different with the sentiment panel. What do you think?

LOL! That’s exactly how I felt a couple weeks ago when 30 snuck up on me! Apparently I am losing brain cells right and left due to this new decade because I almost missed the information about the next release from The Cat’s Pajamas {THIS FRIDAY!}. How does that happen you ask? Well, we communicate on a board that send emails about new messages, but no email was sent about this one and I didn’t sort through the forum until LAST NIGHT and saw the info…and that’s after I saw my little TCP button over there to the right doing a little happy dance about a new release. Go ahead and put that dunce cap on me now! The good thing is, I had several projects completed weeks ago for this. The even better thing is, I get to share them now. Just one for today, but there will be several, so consider yourself fairly warned. ;)

If you are interested in winning a new TCP set, Toni, Leigh, Karrie and Tracy will be having chances for you throughout the week. Good Luck!!

BTW- We finished Dexter S2 last night. I am so mad that we don’t have Showtime and will have to wait until it comes out on DVD…NEXT YEAR!!
