Welcome to another {Your Next Stamp} FUN FRIDAY! This month kicked off the FUN FRIDAY series from the YNS design team. Each Friday, DT members will be sharing their YNS creations along with a fun tip, trick or technique. You can find links to all those sharing on Fridays on the YNS blog.

As for me, I want to share with you my textured filled card using Anika from Holland

Ok, so let’s chat TEXTURE!

Merriam-Webster defines TEXTURE as the visual or tactile surface characteristics and appearance of something.

By this definition and in the terms of card making…it’s how a card looks and feels. Texture can be lacking and it can also be way overdone. So, how did I incorporate it into my card?

1. Distressed edges
2. Sewn panel
3. Embossed panel
4. Punch panel
5. Ribbon and twine
6. Layers

You can see that I did not distress, sew on and emboss every layer. This would send this card into texture overload, especially since the focal point is a large colored image. If the main image panel was a sentiment, distressing, sewing and embossing on multiple panels could look good. I probably could have gotten away with sewing on the red dot panel, but it was nap time and I try not to make too much noise that might wake the beast. I know you moms know what I mean!
The small eyelet lace punched panel atop the embossed kraft panel also adds texture, as will as visual appeal by tying in the white from the main image panel and card base.
Embellishments, such as the ribbon and twine I used, are super simple ways to add texture to a card. You can play around with the placement and how to tie/knot it so that it fits the style of your creation.
I contemplated whether or not to add “Layers” as part of this “dissertation” on texture and then I thought to myself that it is the most basic part of the texture of this card. I find myself running my fingers over the layers and realizing how much different this card would be if it was all flat. So remember, dimension makes a difference!

What’s your favorite way to add texture to your creations?

Thanks So Very Much…

I’ve been working on increasing my stash of Thank You cards and on Tuesday I was able to create a whole bunch {ok, like 4} using my Verve stamps and dies. In addition to avoiding cleaning me house by camping out in my stamp room, I have also been perusing Pinterest and came across a card {that I cannot find the link to now…ugh} and I just LOVE the layout, so I thought that I would give it a go myself…

The butterfly is cut twice from the new All Aflutter die set and is stamped with the grid from the Making a Statement set {same set as sentiment}…

There is a whole bunch of patterns and textures going on with this card and I love the way that they come together. I get asked {a lot} how I choose my papers. I honestly don’t put a lot of thought into it, especially when they come from the same paper line {Authentique}. Many times, I just pick up a few scraps that happen to have fallen next to each other. Is that dumb luck or an eye for design? Six to one, half a dozen to the other, I guess :) I try to vary the size and white/neutral space of my patterns. Also, you can see that I tied the blue in several places, making it dominant without even having a lot of it on the card. In addition to the pattern papers, I try to add texture. The white textured panel {Sizzix embossing folder} creates a pop of {un}color and sets off the blue butterfly. I don’t know that I have actually explained anything about my paper choices here. It seems like I have really just discussed what I notice when I look at this card. Anyways, for those that want to know my thoughts on paper choices, this is a start. I will try to revisit this subject a few more times, as I pay more attention to the “why” in my choices.

Have a beautiful day!

**just realized that I forgot to announce the winner of the COMFORT FOOD set from my January 14th post** **And the {random} winner is #27…VALARIE FLORER** Val, email me {link under my pic} your info and I will get this out to you ASAP.

It’s release day at Market Street Stamps and there is a whole lotta new cuteness on the shelves! The travel theme sets were tons of fun to work with as I had my CHA trip for inspiration. For those of you going, I can’t wait to see everyone! For those of you not going, I know how you feel {I think}. My stomach has turned every time CHA rolled around the past few years! I would even step back from the computer for a few days because I felt like I was a 5 year old looking into Disneyland from across the street…not a fun feeling!

I am so thankful and delighted that I get to go again and with that in mind, I made this card using the new BON VOYAGE and TRAVELSCAPES sets {along with Vintage Notepad for the background}…

Birds of a Feather…

Monday…again! Funny how Monday keeps popping up like that! I won’t be saying that next Monday when I am having a blast with some of my fellow Market Street Stamps peeps at CHA! If you are going, be sure to stop by the MSS booth. I will be there for a bit on Monday afternoon and I am looking forward to it very much! It’s been 4 years since I’ve been to CHA and I can’t wait to see all the product and hang out with friends, old and new!

Market Street is launching FOUR new sets this week {Thursday is release day} and the design team is featuring BIRDS OF A FEATHER today. It’s totally cute and fun and funky! Don’t ya think?…

Now I have to admit something…

I can’t say this sentiment aloud without using a {terrible} British accent! Why?…I don’t know, but it makes me giggle! Try it…it’s fun! Hehehe!!

While browsing through blogs and such the other day, I came across THIS set of cards from Val Stangle. Needless to say, I fell in LOVE with them. Simple style in a dynamic card…not to mention pretty cute, too! Val’s cards were definitely my inspiration for this Verve clean and simple creation using BETTER WITH YOU

I paper pieced the cup snuggies and used a combination of the coffee splat, steam and sentiment on the main image panel…

There are lots of fun sentiments in the BETTER WITH YOU set and since this card is so sweet and simple, I am thinking that a card gift set might be in order for a coffee lover!

I hope you are having a great weekend. I’m keeping this short and sweet so I can have some family time!! See ya’ll Monday!
