Sketch For You to Try…

Happy Saturday SKETCH FOR YOU TO TRY Friends!!

We survived the first week of Kindergarten with flying colors! Only a few tears shed…by me. Nicolas went to his meet the teacher where there were A LOT of tears shed…by Ellie. She did NOT want to leave her baby brother in his classroom. WOW…we were not expecting that! It was very sweet and speaks a lot about her love for her brother and her true heart of gold. Maybe she thought they were the circus that I threaten to sell him to!! LOL! The great thing is…I can see the light. The light surrounded by peace and quiet for a few hours a week. I watched Sex and the City 2 last night and got a huge kick out of Miranda and Charlotte toasting to women that don’t have any help with the kids {and I’m not just talking about a nanny}! SALUD!!

Just a few days left to enter this month’s SKETCH FOR YOU TO TRY! I love the wonky panels on this sketch. Although I have used a bunch of regular corners and straight lines on this particular card, I am inspired to use this sketch again and change all that up a little! THANK YOU again to this month’s sponsor, KRAFTIN’ KIMMIE! I have LOVED coloring these images and am looking forward to the arrival of the Halloween stamp that I ordered the other day {the Halloween release is A-MAAAA-ZING!}. As for this card, I used Jeannie

Remember, I mentioned that I was playing with some vellum? I used it with the sentiment flag here so that I didn’t fully cover her legs…

Just a Note…

Posted by Jen | Verve, cards, just because | Thursday, August 25, 2011

So, the first week of Kindergarten has gone well. I can’t believe that she has homework EVERY night, but at least she is having fun with it. Today we go to Nic’s “Meet the Teacher.” He will be starting a Mommy’s Day Out program soon, which I think is very much needed for both him and for me. I am sure that there are moms out there relating to that!

The other day I needed to write Ellie’s teacher a note and I found myself searching for a cute card that didn’t have some sort of theme with it {birthday, thank you, etc.} and I came up with nothing and had to write the note on a blank sheet of paper…boring! That is where I find my inspiration for today. Now, this card might be a little fancier than what I want/need for a “Just a Note” type card, but it was fun to make and I am going to use some of the elements to mass produce {eeek!} some simpler note cards. Plus, it’s made with all Verve stamps and dies, so it was easy to get just a little carried away in my design…

This card uses a medallion and sentiment stamp both from the set ACCENT NOTES, along with the Loopy Blooms and Classy Labels Dies. I chose a mix of papers from My Mind’s Eye to create this palette. I even broke out some vellum that was left on top of my scrap pile from another recently finished project to cut out the loopy bloom in the center. Just for the record…I love that die set! It’s fun, easy to use and super versatile, especially when you mix and match papers and materials.

I’ll leave you with a shot of Ellie’s first day of Kindergarten. I think Nicolas was proud to walk his sister into school…

TCP Tuesday Color Challenge…

Posted by Jen | The Cat's Pajamas, cards, challenges | Wednesday, August 24, 2011

Greetings TCP fans! It’s time for a great new challenge this week! Tori is your Hipster Hostess with the Mostess and she has this fun color challenge for everyone to play along with…

tcptues173colors

I have to admit that when I saw “Cornflower Blue” in the line-up I said “blech!” {No offense, Tori!!}. Whenever I got a new set of Crayola crayons, I would always toss out Cornflower Blue because I really did not like coloring with it {and still don’t}. Fortunately, I’ve graduated from those ol’ Crayolas and there are some great papers that will work for Cornflower Blue {but you won’t find me describing them as so…LOL!}. So, this is what I came up with…

The new My Mind’s Eye “Honey Cake” collection was just absolute perfection for this color challenge! I used three of the patterns to create different elements on this card…and there is A LOT going on here!

First, here’s a detail of the bunny from the set, FLUTTER BY

aug_colorchallenge_bunny

I got a little happy with the TCP CutUps dies, too! I used THREE to create finishing touches on this card. The vertical panel on the right uses the Big Scallop CutUps die. The large rosette was create with the Easy Rosette and Button Flowers CutUps die sets

aug_colorchallenge_rosette

The flower was cut from felt and then topped off with a vintage button strung with linen thread. The orange ribbon around the main panel is the Mango Seam Binding Ribbon {swoooooon!}.

Want to play along? You can check out Tori’s blog for all the hip details! Happy stamping!

TGIF! Last night was Ellie’s “Meet the Teacher” night. I have to say that I came away with some mixed feelings about the whole experience, but am still looking forward to a great year. I signed up to be “Room Mom”…what am I thinking?!? LOL! I do hope that I will have a presence in her classroom through volunteering and such, as well. I can’t believe that my little girl is on her way to kindergarten!

On a stamping note…this week’s TCP Tuesday challenge is brought to you by Hipster Hostess of the Mostess, Julie, and she is charging us to use FELT! You can see all of the challenge details on her blog, too. TCP has a wide variety of colors of quality felt and it was fun to break it out and use it as a focal point on this card…

feltbannercard

The banner was created with felt cut from the Pennant CutUps die set. I then stamped the letters word JOY with the Nightie Alpha set in Brilliance Graphite Black on white cardstock and punched in out and adhered it on top of the pennant pieces with hot glue {for dimension and to make sure they weren’t going to fall off of the texture of the felt}.

feltbannercard_detail2

The snowflakes are cut out of white cardstock with the Snowflake CutUps die. I sprayed them with a little bit of Shimmerz {not sure of the color name - clear and sparkly, though}. I added a large-ish rhinestone in the center for a little added bling…

feltbannercard_detail1

In addition to all the products mentioned above, I also broke out the red Baker’s Twine {swoon!} and used a sentiment from the Your Gift set {the set I used in last week’s TCP Tuesday challenge, too!}.

PSSST~ You might want to know this, too…
