Opening Weekend…

Posted by Jen | Verve, cards, challenges, designer of the month | Saturday, August 30, 2008

Is anyone else excited that it’s opening weekend for college football. Two words: BOOMER SOONER! I know I hear Carole’s echo! I am actually not Sooner born and bred, rather Sooner wed. I went to Arizona State, so I will also be cheering on my Sun Devils…who just happen to be coming into this season with a fairly good ranking {15, I think}. So, who are your rooting for?

I started making my card with the new Meet The Verve Diva challenge in mind. Michelle has challenged everyone to create a card with some supplies that are underloved. Hmmm…where do I begin? The embellishments, the stamps, the chipboard…the list goes on. I know you know what I mean. If you are shaking your head, it is possible that you are in denial. LOL!

Before I get to the card I made, let’s see the sketch…

Here’s my card…

Detail shot…
sfytt_083008_sample_detail.jpg

As I kinda eluded to, I have plenty to choose from in the way of unloved goods. So, what did I choose? I chose some vinyl appliques {those swirly thingamajingys} from ScrapWorks that I picked up a couple of months ago at the Great American Scrapbook Convention. I used Kraft paper, which is something that I am trying to do more and more. The Prima flowers are from a share that Jody had and I never go for the bold colors…especially black. I also picked up some acetate that I rarely use and the stamp is a Verve Stamps sentiment that I have not used yet.

Bonnie Sharp has been with us all month long and I have truly enjoyed each and one of her creations. Please give her a standing ovation as she leaves us with this totally cute card!…

Wanna see more samples using this sketch? Check out Amy R., Amy S., Shannan and Susan’s blogs. Carole made some weak excuse and won’t be posting until Sunday {she knows I’m kidding!!}.

Also, I want to ***wave hello*** to all the ladies that took my class at Imprints last night. I got to meet some really wonderful women and we had a lot of fun. They’re probably blaming me for a wee bit of enabling, too! ;) I am setting up more classes in October and will let you know as soon as they are all firmed up.

BOOMER SOONER baby!!! Yep, I AM Sooner BORN and BRED!! And my husband actually is a Sooner in the truest meaning of the word (as in he was a Sooner athlete - he wrestled at OU - we both are OU alumni). Anyway, nobody out here in the middle of the Pacific gives a crap about football, so that kinda sucks, along with the fact that we often have to get up at 4:30 am on Maui to catch kickoff on TV - ouch!! Anyway, I was so excited to see Boomer Sooner on your post today, so I just had to comment!!! You made my day!! :-) Oh, and great cards!

Boomer! Sooner! Quite the blowout, but a pretty lame second half, I’m sure Tony agrees! (We watched on PPV… you know why we couldn’t be there :( ). LOVED this sketch and finally have my sample posted. You know I love it when you break out the kraft, Jen, and the Verve and swirls really dresses it up. Bonnie’s is soooo cute!!! Can’t wait to see what you have for us in Sept!

    Jen,

You should ask my DH how excited he is about college football season …..LOL!!!

We love the Sooner’s too!!! DH graduated from OU earning his PH.D in 1999. Our first born daughter was born during that time and we had an OU baby shower - it was soooooo super awesome - I’ll never forget that!!!

BTW - I love your Sketch and your gorgeous card!!! I’ll love to give it a try…..I’ll be back!!!

TN Volunteers! We went to Boomsday, which is a HUGE Labor Day celebration in downtown Knoxville, and a portion of the fireworks show were orange & white in honor of our football team. Knoxville is the home of the Volunteer team, so football time is an even bigger deal around here.

I love your card for this sketch challenge. Your color choice and your design are just perfect.

Bonnie’s card is adorable. I love all the bright colors, and especially the stamped image (Stamping Bella). I have a couple of these stamps myself. I am definitely getting this one as well.

Thank you for this sketch. So cute. I twisted mine around. I feel I rushed it, it was quick, but I loved the sketch and will probably use it again! Thanks. Hope your day is stampfully great!
