Big Bold Birthday…

Posted by Jen | cards, challenges | Monday, August 27, 2007

**Quick Note…My Favorite Things is having a new release on September 1st. Sneak Peeks start here on Thursday!!**

A couple of week’s ago Diane {a.k.a. cookiestamper on SCS} welcomed us to a challenge using the SU! set Big Bold Birthday. I just absolutely fell head over heels for this set when it came out in the catty, but have not had a bunch of chances to use it, so this was a perfect opportunity. The background is stamped with the Polka Dot background stamp, and the bottom portion of that layer is pierced. I used the Certainly Celery scalloped square layer and Whisper White square to frame the cupcake. The icing part of the cupcake is smothered in Diamond Stickles, and the entire cupcake is mounted on 1/8″ glue dots. The sentiment layer originally did not have the cut end, but I felt like it needed something without adding anything {if that makes any sense!!}. Be sure to check out all the other player’s cards.
Other Players: {as of me posting, not everyone has posted their cards, but they will later}
Diane Zechman {cookiestamper}

Happy Saturday and a Sketch For You To Try…

Posted by Jen | cards, challenges | Saturday, August 25, 2007

Hello and Happy Saturday!! It really feels like Sunday to me because Tony has Fridays off of school, so he was home all day yesterday. Today Ellie is going to her friend, Kaden’s, birthday party. Yesterday I made this card for the lil’ guy who gave Ellie her first “real” kiss last weekend. I figure it better be a nice card since they practically agreed to marriage with that kiss…LOL!!!
Have you ever had an idea, then it totally took another direction and you are so happy that it did? That’s what happened here…and with another card I did yesterday {I’ll post that one on Monday}. When I got done with this card {despite the fact that it boasts a few flaws}, I was {am} super happy the way that it came out!! Mostly because I took what I think are some of my weaknesses {patterned paper and using tags} and was able to not only able to use them, but I used them together! I thought that it would be cool to do the sketch based on this card because there is a whole plethora of possibilities of the places you can go with it. I am really looking forward to seeing what you come up with!!

I’m an eP Friend…

Posted by Jen | cards, projects | Friday, August 24, 2007

Yea!! Joy asked me if I would like to be the eP {eclecticpaperie.com} friend this week. Well, of course I would!! I love all the stuff that Joy and Daisy have put in their store. Right now I’m saving my pennies {and nickels, dimes and quarters} for a Bind-It-All!! I find myself perusing the merchandise quite frequently, which leads me to happy mail quite frequently…if you know what I mean!! Hugs to Joy and Daisy for having me as the eP friend of the week! I’d like to share with you some of the stuff that I have come up with using stuff that I am not currently hoarding.
In case you haven’t noticed, they have an **awesome** selection of papers! Taylor kept mentioning Crate Paper, so when I saw it in the store, I snapped some up. This one sheet box (I swear it’s a bag…LOL!) features paper from the Cowgirl Collection. I made a matching zipper pull/keychain using Maya Road Blossom chipboard {**on sale now**} covered in the same paper and then covered with Crystal Effects from SU!.

I also made a card with some fun stuff from eP. Last week my happy mail included FLOCK!! I’ve played with this fun fuzzy stuff a little bit before, but never really experimented with it. A couple night ago I decided to see what I could do with it. Now, I admit I didn’t go all crazy, but I do like what I came up with. I took a medium weight coaster and covered it with {sheet} sticky tape from Provo Craft, then I ran it through the Cuttlebug to get a flower die cut with one sticky side. I covered that sticky side in Pixie Pink flock and then embellished it with a button with ribbon. The stem was created with polka dot grosgrain ribbon and the sentiment is from My Favorite Things. **MFT is coming out with something NEW on the first…Sneak Previews coming soon!!**

Last but not least, I have to share this super cute pic of Ellie in my shades. She’s such a ham!!

Beautiful Blooms…

Posted by Jen | cards, challenges | Thursday, August 23, 2007

This is a card that uses the sketch from this post. I never got around to making my own sample that day, so {finally} the other day I came up with this. I am not real happy with the lighting in this photo, but at some point I just have to go with what I have. I used the new set, Beautiful Blooms, from PaperTrey. I really like the flowers in this set. I have not gotten an opportunity to play with the one that matches the Cuttlebug die, but I have to say that was a major selling point.
I’ve been working on a couple projects to show you tomorrow. One is so much flocking fun!
