Saturday’s Challenge…

Posted by Jen | cards, challenges | Saturday, June 23, 2007

Yesterday’s card received a lot of comments/compliments about the layout. First and foremost, thank you for that! Second, what a great little sketch challenge! I made another card using this layout last night with one of my new Impress stamps. The icing part is coated with Liquid Pearls and the cherries were created using seed beads.

My challenge to you:
Create a square card using this layout.

Bonus:
Use any sort of bead as an embellishment.

Neglected Stamps…

It’s true, not all my stamps are well loved. Today’s challenge on SCS was to use those neglected stamps. This was the perfect challenge for me to get out my under-loved stamps. A while back I traded another not-so-loved set for Loving Hearts…kind of ironic, huh? Well this set has sat on my shelf and has maybe been used a few times. I just can’t get rid of it! In addition to Loving Hearts, I also used the flower stamp from Cool Cat and a sentiment from Small Sayings. I get a lot of use out of the Small Sayings set, but I had yet to use this one. I love how it fits perfectly into the rectangle scallop punch that I have. I think I will be using this one a lot for tags and such!
In addition to this “complying” with LSC121, it also works for Julia’s challenge yesterday…to make a square card. If you know anything about me, you know I love to make square cards! As many of you know, Julia’s mom lost her battle to melanoma last week. If you would like to send a card to her, please see this post.
See you tomorrow for a fun little challenge!! :)

A Little Dirt Never Hurt Anyone…

Posted by Jen | random ramblings | Thursday, June 21, 2007

Last night after dinner Tony asks me if I wanted to go get a sno-cone. Mmmm…hot summer day, icy-cold sno-cone. He didn’t have to ask me twice!! So, we strapped in Ellie in her car seat and we were off to the little sno-cone hut down the road. I ordered a Sour Apple and Cherry and Tony got a Strawberry and Vanilla. Ellie got just plain ice. We brought them home and went outside. I sat Ellie on the patio with her little cup of shaved ice and had a ball with it. Who knew ice could be so much fun?!?!? But wait…you know what would be even better? Dirt and ice!! Never before has she ever messed with the flower pots, but as soon as she was soaking wet it apparently seemed very appealing. My first instinct was to pull her away, but then I just let her play for a few minutes {we were close to bath time, so what the heck!}. Well…here is the result of dirt and ice…aka MUD:

Sweet Baby Girl…

Posted by Jen | cards, challenges | Wednesday, June 20, 2007

Fellow Dirty Dozen Alumni, Sue {jsbrooketrout}, had her baby!! Little LeeAnne entered this world very early on Father’s Day. I love this sentiment from My Favorite Things…Sweet Baby Girl! {There is also “Sweet Baby Boy” in this set}. I can’t stop using the MFT dot background. It is the perfect background for so many cards…and people keep thinking it’s DP!!! The diaper pin image is from A Muse. I colored in the pin part with a silver gel pen and the tops of the pins are colored in with SU! markers. The center heart is covered with Diamond Stickles…every little girl needs some bling, right?
Congratulations to Sue and her family!!

Say Charge…

I stalked the eclectic Paperie site until the wood mounted Melanie finally came back in stock after I saw Ana’s work with it for her Guest Designer work. As you can see I used a couple of Ana’s design elements in my card. First, I loved how she made her shoes red. It just makes me sing the Kelly Pickler song, “Red High Heels.” You can’t see it in the pic, but I made the shoes patent by putting a glaze on them. I did this on the red strip on the hat as well. I also incorporated Ana’s genius idea of stuffing the shopping back with tissue paper. Too cute!!

This card was created using the colors for CC119 on SCS, Creamy Caramel, Barely Banana and Real Red. I have to admit that I kinda turned my nose up when I first saw what the colors were, but then I saw the examples and a twinkling of inspiration came over me. The bags were created using the paper piecing technique. The sentiment is from My Favorite Things and {IMHO} fits this image perfectly.
