The Best Things In Life…

Posted by Jen | MFT, There She Goes, cards | Monday, February 23, 2009

Before I get started on meat of this post, I wanted to remind you that there will be a brand new Bellarific Challenge posted today on the Bella Blog. Last week she announced all of her Bella Babes…and I am one of them! Thank you, Em!! This is an amazing group of girls, be sure to check them out!! I was a little confused about when to post my card for the challenge and it turns out it’s not today, like I was originally thinking it was. So, I have that one store away to show you on another day and I pulled one out of my stash that I have not gotten a chance to post about today.

While there are many wonderful things in life like family and friends, I must say that the one that I am appreciating right now is CAFFEINE! Ellie has come into a phase of waking up in the middle of the night, usually more than once. Sometimes it’s nightmares…last night a big animal scared her {???}; sometimes it’s “I need a big hug.” I know that some seasoned parents out there would tell me to let her cry it out and she will go back to sleep. We’ve tried, but we know that there comes a point where she won’t. I just keep telling myself that it’s phase and to just deal with it. Needless to say, coffee has been my friend! A couple weeks ago, I told you about the new coffee place in town called Jitter Beans. They are the nicest people that run it and I dropped off a few of these cards for her…

The coffee cup image is from There She Goes {very cute set, BTW!} and the sentiment is from My Favorite Things {who is releasing a very special set to me next week!}. I started with Kraft paper and then used Red Riding Hood {ETA: Oops, it’s not Red Riding Hood, it’s actually Bazzill paper that I had on hand} for the coffee cup, which also happen to be the color of their large cups. I paper pieced DP from Basic Grey’s Urban Prairie 6×6 pad on the coffee cup and also used it as the strip across the card. Finally, I topped it off with brown satin ribbon. Ooh…I almost forgot! Can you see the steam? That’s another part of TSG set. I just stamped it on the Kraft in VersaMark before I adhered the cup to card {on dimensionals}.

It’s the beginning of another busy busy week. I have lots to work on and lots to show! Happy Monday!

SPONGEBOB SQUAREPANTS!

LOL! Ellie and I threw Tony a Spongebob themed birthday party yesterday. I use the term “party” loosely, as it was just the three of us. I made one of Tony’s favorites for dinner and then we had cupcakes for dessert. I even piped the frosting on the cupcakes myself! I also use the term “theme” loosely, as the whole Spongebob theme really just consisted of cupcake liners, a balloon and my card using the absorbent, yellow and porous fellow {for those parents that have seen the show, I apologize now for getting that song stuck in your head!}.

Here’s the sketch for this week…

Here’s my sample, Tony’s birthday card…

That “wonderful” Spongebob patterned paper was created on the computer. I did a search for a Spongebob image and when I found one I liked, I copied and pasted it in Word. I then resized it and then copied and pasted numerous times. I just love the way it looks! {giggling}

Designer of the Month, Jody Morrow, came up with this fab sample…

Yesterday, I showed you a couple cards from the upcoming The Cat’s Pajamas release {Feb. 27} and today I get to show you one of my favorite projects that I have done with this release…a mini gable box. You can make 2 of these out of a sheet of 8.5″ x 11″ paper…talk about easy mass production. These are very easily personalized and embellished. For this project, I just used a rectangle Nestabilities die to cut out the window in the front, but I think it would darling with the Labels 1 dies or even stars!

I am guessing that I will get a handful of people asking me how I Cuttlebugged this project. I embossed the box from either side and left the bottom of the box un-embossed.

YES, YES, YES…I did a template for you! :) Click for a larger view
Please note that this is for PERSONAL use only. THANK YOU!

Quick! Hide The Eggs!…

Posted by Jen | The Cat's Pajamas, cards | Thursday, February 19, 2009

YAY! Alma, Queen Bee at The Cat’s Pajamas, gave us the green light to go ahead and start showing projects featuring the upcoming releases. I have A BUNCH of cards sitting here, but I am just going to show you 2 today. The first card uses stamps from the set Bean & Bunnies & Peeps, Oh My!… {makes me giggle every time I see or say it!!}. For this card I used three of the stamps in the set. The first is the grass, or nest {whatever your creative heart desires}, then the chick on her eggs finally the sentiment.

Alma sent all of us the Honey Pie paper pack by Cosmo Cricket to pair with the new sets. I have been ogling these papers for awhile, so I was in heaven getting to play with them a few times over with all my projects. The pattern that I used on this card is my favorite in the whole pack and may just have to hoard any scraps that I have left…LOL! For a finishing touch, I paired a button with some linen thread, which I thought was a perfect match to the “feel” of the paper {which I also stitched around for this same reason}.

The next card features lovable Poochie in a carrot car. This image is from the Spring Fling set, and it cracks me up! The mushrooms, grass and sentiment are also from the same set.

In addition to the Honey Pie paper pack, we also had a chance to work with Cosmo Cricket’s Baby Bee collection…so cute! I love the muted colors and I think that this orange with white polkas paired well with this image. I am not sure if you can see in the pic, but I popped up the tail of the carrot and rubbed it in a VersaMark Dazzle {Frost} ink pad, so it shimmers. Again, I used a button as one of my finishing touches. I am totally into buttons right now, as is the rest of the paper crafting world! Here I used a Prima flower and some May Arts twill as the back drop to the button, which is threaded with Scrapper’s Floss. I did some crazy stitchin’ across the card above the sentiment. This was really an afterthought. I kept looking at the card knowing that it needed something, so I added the stitching and called it a day!

See ya tomorrow for ABC Friday and another peek at the upcoming TCP release which is next Friday, February 27.

It’s Bellarific!…

Did you see that Emily is offering up new Bella challenges on the Bella blog? Each Monday a new challenge will be announced and then we send her our entries for a chance to win Bella bucks. As if I needed another excuse to play with Bellas, Buggs or any of the other adorable lines over there. For the challenge this week, Emily and Nicky have asked us to put red and purple together. At first I thought that it just screamed “Red Hat Society,” but I knew that I could make it work. I used LoveBeetle Hugabugg {I can’t get enough of these BUGGS!!} and whipped out a few different shades of Copic red and purple. I would love to have this car…

redpurplebugg

The purple polka dot paper is from My Mind’s Eye. I actually almost put this paper back, but I am glad that I didn’t! I don’t have a whole lot of purple DP, so I thought this would be a good “go to” piece. Turns out that I think that I will use this again and again. I really do like it! The rectangular red panel is embossed with the Spots and Dots Cuttlebug embossing folder and topped off with Elegant Eggplant {SU!} grosgrain ribbon. After I finished adhering the red panel and the main image panel, I felt as though there was something that was missing. What’s a girl to do when this happens?…I put my “more is more” hat and got to work. I added three Elegant Eggplant circles on the right hand side with Real Red hearts in the centers. I then added the brads on top and bottom; note how I offset them. I did not add a sentiment, as I wanted this card to be one that I could send to one of my girlfriends for no particular reason…it’s good to have these on hand, I think!

Hope you are all having a wonderful week! I just have to share this because it made me laugh {i love that site!}
