YNS Fun Friday…
TGIF Friends! What a week it has been! I got smacked with a head cold that is keeping me a little off my game, so I am going to keep this pretty short and sweet. What do you think of these YNS Fun Friday posts? Hopefully you are finding all the tips and tricks helpful. Since I am not too much of a technique junkie, you are going to find me rambling about random stuff related to stamping/crafting. Like today, I’m going to touch on creating holiday cards year round. First, a holiday-ish card pic…
I made the ball and rim of his hat fuzzy with Diamond Stickles and Flower Soft {love this product combo!}. I also used Diamond Stickles to create the snow on the branch…
This card uses the set HOLIDAY OWL from Your Next Stamp. Usually, I am not one for owls, but I absolutely LOVE this one. Not as cutesy and whimsy as others…it’s just right {can you tell we’ve had Goldilocks & the Three Bears for homework in this house?}
Ok, let’s chat holiday cards. We all want to send out handmade cards to our family and friends, but then December 1st rolls around and you realize that there is no way that you are not going to make that many holiday cards in 2.5 weeks. Right?…or is it just me? This year is going to be different, I’m making a point to make holiday cards throughout the year. This is my plan…
1. Set a monthly goal. I’m hoping to make 3 a month.
2. Use non-traditional colors. It’s hard to get into the fa-la-la spirit when it’s 95 degrees outside. Break out of the red and green box and use pink and aqua or blue and yellow {as shown}, etc. to make festive and fun cards.
3. Create cards that {can} incorporate photos.
4. Make more than one of each card. Mass production is not something that I normally do {or would promote}, but when it comes to holiday cards, you can make an exception.
5. Keep it simple. I absolutely love the CAS style {yes, I know this card isn’t}! This will also make it easier to create more than one of each design.
Hopefully these few tips will help you add to your holiday card stash throughout the year!
Did you notice the layout of this card is this month’s SKETCH FOR YOU TO TRY {sponsored by YOUR NEXT STAMP!}…
There’s a few days left to play along, and I certainly hope you will! All of the details, as well as the link system to add your card to can be found on THIS POST.
And, check this out…
Happy stamping!

Love this bundled up owl with his blue and yellow scarf and fluffy white trimmed stocking cap. Blue and yellow is one of my favorite color combinations and it works so well here!
Wow! Awesome winter (or Christmas) card, Jen! Love all the layers and special touches and really love this sketch!! I think your plan to create Christmas cards throughout the year is a good one. Thanks for the hints and for the inspiration!!
Love your plan to make holiday cards. I am going to try this. Also, I am going to try to make a couple of birthday card designs each month so that I don’t keep trying to think one up when I am rushed. Love your site!
