WATCH OUT…Carole is contagious!! I took Ellie to Little Gym this morning. We were having such a good time until my left pinky toe caught the edge of on of the gym mats. OMG did that hurt. At first I thought nothing of it…well, for like 2 seconds. Then, I looked down and my toe was pointing outwards. EEEEK! I popped it back into place and excused myself to the waiting area {fortunately Tony was with us this morning}. I was planning on just walking it off, but they handed me an ice pack and I sat in the reception area for a minute. That was four hours ago. This is now…

Yes, it hurts…a lot! The worst part is that I am having to wear socks and tennis shoes!! I am a flip-flop loving girl. This might send me into a straight jacket.

On a more positive note, Ellie came up to me yesterday morning and said, “No more diapers, Mama!” Joy, elation…extreme nervousness came over me. Last week I started just asking if she wanted to use the potty. She has really taken to it and so far, so good with the big girl underpants. I was going to try the “Potty Train In a Day” book method, but it looks like good ol’ persistence {the good kind} is doing the trick. Thank you all so much for your recommendations last week!!

Double ouch! I hope it feels better very soon. I hear you on the tennis shoes - yuck! Good luck with the potty training. As a mother of five, my best advice is to just relax.

Been there, done that EXACT same thing Jen! I was a teenager, in high school. The phone rang, and of course, being a teenager, I raced to the door of my bedroom to go get the phone (cuz it was probably for me, of course). Excitedly, I threw open the door and got caught it right between my pinky toe and the second to last toe. I go crashing to the floor, in sever pain…now oblivious to the phone! I too had to straighten my toe back into the correct place. Believe it or not, mine turned black and blue ALL THE WAY up my foot! I still remember the moment well because it was SOOO painful. Here’s a big {{{hug}}} for you and a wish for a speedy recovery!

I’m surprised you can even wear a shoe! I did the same thing about four years ago and could not even get my foot into a shoe!! It was winter and I HAD to wear flip flops! I feel your pain.

Potty Training is so hard but the reward of no more diaper changes is such a huge reward!! Congrats to you and Ellie!!

I had to chuckle - not at you but with you. One of my sons did something and broke my toe as well…it looked like yours but it included the ‘ring toe’ and my entire arch of my foot. I was in socks and tennis shoes in dallas’ summer as well…two weeks after that, another/different son broke the same toe again. Try not cussing in front of them! I feel your pain!

    Hi Jen,

I hate to tell you but your toe looks just like my boyfriends and your description was the same as what his toe did. His was broken. I am sure yours is also and it helps to wraps the last 2 toes together. If you can wear flip flops whenever possible that will be good as putting your foot in shoes is extremely painful. Love your blog!

Oh, Jen, that’s just nasty-hurtful looking…you poor thing. Be sure to pamper yourself as much as possible these next few days–foot elevated, a little stamping, a little chocolate; mix and repeat!

    Hugs,
    Amy

  22. Comment by Wendy — September 30, 2008 @ 7:23 pm

Jen, let me warn you now! If you haven’t done this before, you will do it again! I have “broken/sprained/stubbed” by baby toe 4 times and the problem is you do it once, all you have to do is just knick it and it will “re-break” very easily! I had to start wearing shoes in the house! Yes, I am a klutz but better safe than sorry! I so feel for you! Just take it easy!

Yep, it’s broken. Sorry for infecting you, my friend!!! My toe has finally quit hurting, but it’s still kinda swollen… Good excuse to put your feet up and have Tony wait on you hand and, er… um… foot! ;)

Yikes!!! Ouch!! That hurts just looking at it!! I’m so sorry!! I hope it feels better soon!!

  26. Comment by Sandy — October 1, 2008 @ 2:13 pm

OUCH!! That had to hurt. I broke my baby toe before and all they did was tape it to the toe next to it. It takes a while for the bruising and soreness to go away. Feel better soon.

what a pretty color!! i broken 4 of my toes last week!! in the middle of the night - the bedroom door was closed more than i thought it was - crunch!!! and it’s good to put on socks and shoes - kind of like a cast - keep the swelling down!! a friend of mine sent your blog to me to show that i have a friend out there!! i can show you a pic of MY toes!! :^)
