Not Getting Any Tamer…

Posted by Jen | Ellie, The Cat's Pajamas, cards, challenges, projects, random ramblings | Tuesday, April 14, 2009

Well, yesterday’s card was a little wild and I just kept going with that theme for today’s TCP Tuesday card. Ever since Leigh did THIS CARD, there has been a little joke going around about making Ronnie a little more colorful than Alma probably originally intended.

Susan is the Hipster Hostess with the Mostess for this week’s challenge. The challenge?…use any stamps from the set Havin’ A Pow Wow. Here’s my “colorful” card…

10. Oh yea…HAVE FUN!

In addition to the colorful cowboys, I also have a full of color turtle to show you. A few years ago, I picked up this ceramic black turtle to put in our garden. Well, the weather has not been kind to it and I decided it would be fun to give it to Ellie to paint. Yesterday after dinner, we put on some paintin’ clothes and went outside with a few BRIGHT colors of paint and gave the turtle a makeover. I’m even going to let her add some more tonight with a few other colors, then I will seal it and put it right back in our garden as a priceless piece of art!

Cheeeeeeeeeeeese!…

Missmatch…

Posted by Jen | Bella, cards | Monday, April 13, 2009

Meet Missmatch Ketto. She’s fun. She’s eclectic. She’s a free spirit. She reminds me of Tony’s cousin, Stephanie. {waving hello}. There was a point in my life that I wish I could have been a little bit more granola, a little bit more into indy-rock, a little more tree-hugging. Truth of the matter is that I have always been a Tim McGraw loving, mini-van driving, soccer mom in the making…a cool one, tho! ;)

Well, just like all the other Bella lines, I have taking a liking to the Kettos {no surprise there!}. This lil’ Missmatch Ketto makes me giggle as I think of the those free spirits. With a name like Missmatch, I felt that I had a little creative freedom with colors, cuts and styles to use on this card…hence the combo of polkas and plaid and tilted panels. What do you think?…

For my finishing touches, I used a few Swarovski crystals to bling up the edge of the scallop edge rectangle that partially mats the main image. I also used SU!s heart punch and some black and white polka dot ribbon I picked up at Michael’s ages ago. The sentiment is also from Stamping Bella and I think that it sarcastically goes along with this fun image.

Well, it’s the start of a busy week here, as I am sure as it is for you, too. See ya soon! :)

Sketch For You To Try…

Posted by Jen | Holidays, cards, challenges, designer of the month | Saturday, April 11, 2009

Happy Saturday! Tony had yesterday off of work and we ran some errands and planted some flowers in the front yard. I still have a bunch more to plant, but it’s starting to look good. I love having lots of color in our planters and I really want to win “Yard of the Month.” Silly, I know, but I just want to win it once and I think that once all these flowers grow in that maybe…just, maybe I could get it! Once I get all done, I will be sure to post some pics.

Alright, down to BIZNESS! Here’s the sketch for this week…

Fun and funky, right? I had A LOT of fun with this one and I really hope that you will give it a shot! Here’s my sample…

I have to admit that it takes A LOT for me to pick up a stamp at a major retail chain. Maybe I sound like a bit of a stamp snob, and I probably am, but I already have so many stamps and I really like supporting smaller companies. However, when I saw this stamp at Hobby Lobby from Stampabilities I fell in love! He’s just so darn cute! I didn’t have any yellow flock, but I colored his tummy a darker yellow and then flocked over it in white. The flowers are cut from my Slice machine…sorry if I over doing it with these Slice flowers, but I LOVE ‘em!!

Here’s is this month’s Designer of the Month, Kimberly Crawford’s, clever sample. I love how she embossed the clear panels!

Have fun with this sketch and link your creation below. For those of you that have trouble with linking on Mr. Linky, please email me and I will link it from my computer. If you upload to SCS, please use the keyword SFYTT.

ABC Friday ~ Easter Treat Basket…

Posted by Jen | ABC Friday, Holidays, projects | Friday, April 10, 2009

Happy {Good} Friday! I finally reached for some more spring-y pastel colors and made this little basket as a gift for my neighbor. It’s filled with iridescent grass and a cello bag filled with pastel jellybeans {yummy ones!}.

abcfridaybasket

I started off with a 8.5″ square paper {PTI Lemon Tart} and score at 2.75″ on each side. I then cut, folded and pasted it into box form. I covered the sides with purple polka dot paper {The Paper Studio} and then punched holes to thread the ribbon in and out of. The ribbon is secured on the inside of the box with red-line tape. I then added a handle made of the same ribbon that I threaded through the basket {PTI Lemon Tart Saddle Stitch ribbon}. The buttons are both for decoration and they secure the handle…well, actually, I guess that is what the linen thread is doing, but you get the idea.

In the pic above and below, you can see the scalloped scallop edge that I added. This is becoming one of my “go to” punches {EK Success}. It’s one that I picked up at Michael’s with my handy 40% off coupon. As for the front of the basket, I cut out 2 flowers with my Slice machine, ran them through the Swiss Dots Cuttlebug embossing folder and inked the edges. Then, I added a Prima flower and the butterfly punches topped with Swarovski crystals.

Here’s a shot of the inside of the bag topped with PTI New Leaf satin ribbon inside the box…

This was a super easy project that can easily be customized for holidays and events. Although I chose not to, a sentiment or name could easily be hung off the handle. These would be lots of fun for favors for showers or kid’s parties. Have fun with it!

Hope you have a wonder Friday! I will be back tomorrow with another Sketch For You To Try! :)

You Crack Me Up!…

Posted by Jen | Bella, Holidays, cards | Thursday, April 9, 2009

It’s no secret how much I love the Huggabuggs at Stamping Bella, so when I saw this one I was all over it! This sentiment is a little bit of an inside joke between Tony and his Grandma, too. I’ve been telling you that I am all into brights lately, and this card is no exception! I just couldn’t bring myself to reach for the pastels…even on an Easter card!

crackmeup

The polka dot DP is from Hobby Lobby. It’s one of the papers that I am reaching for quite a bit. Yesterday, I bought several sheets so that I can use it for a swap that I am attending in May. I hope I am not boring you with it, but I REALLY do like it! I used some crazy stitching around the edges and added green satin ribbon for texture. The flower was made with the Peony Nestabilities that just arrived…YAY! This was my first go at these flowers. I have a ton of ideas for this die set!

Well, today I am off to do Easter basket shopping. I’m trying to decide if I can get away with going to one store, of if I should make it a little extra special and stop in a few different places. Only caffeine will be able to tell! LOL!

See you tomorrow for another ABC FRIDAY…where I actually have Eater-y pastels! :)
