Plain Jane Friend…

Posted by Jen | Verve, cards | Sunday, April 19, 2009

Happy Sunday! Well, we made it to the birthday party…after making a trip to the doctor’s office for some asthma meds (again…ugh!). I think I can blame the weather for Ellie’s asthma flare up this time. There are days where there is a near 40 degree swing in temps from the morning to the afternoon. If anyone else has similar experiences or advice, please let me know!

Locals…did you go to the garage sale at Imprints yesterday? What did you think? What did you get? I made it down there late to help clean up and heard that it was pretty crazy.

So, Friday night was the release party for Verve Stamps. It was moving so fast that my head was spinning. This was a fairly small release with 2 sets and 4 Plain Janes. Today I have a card to show you that I made with the Medallion Plain Jane and a sentiment/word from the Because of You set.

I used the color combo of Night Quite Navy, Kraft, Always Artichoke and Very Vanilla from the SU! color palette. The flatback pearls are from Stamping Bella. Each of the Medallion stamps is embossed with detail clear embossing powder and those panels are mounted on dimensionals. As for the punched edges, that’s one of those new EK Success punches that I found at Mike’s {and having been raving about!}.

I hope you enjoy the rest of your weekend! If you missed the Sketch For You To Try post for this week, be sure to check it out bc I have a blog tart up for grabs! :)

Sketch For You To Try…

Happy Saturday! It’s actually Friday night as I write this, so I assume that it is a happy Saturday. Hopefully the weather will hold up today {tomorrow} so we can make it to an outdoor birthday party. They are going to have a bounce house and that is a 50/50 shot at either “so much fun I can’t stop giggling” or “you think that I am going in there will all them?” Wish me luck!

**LOCALS**
Don’t forget that today is the GINORMOUS Garage Sale at Imprints in Fort Worth! I was down there the other day and there is going to be SO MUCH good stuff for sale! I hope to make it down there later. See ya there!?

Let’s make this sketch a wee bit more fun this week by adding in a little blog tart. I’ll draw a random participant next Saturday to win a little grab bag filled with goodies. Think ribbons, papers, flowers and bunches of other embellies! Just be sure to post a link on Mr. Linky below. If you have trouble with Mr. Linky, just email me and I will add you. {Note: Mr. Linky can take a few minutes to update}.

Ok, so here’s the sketch…

Here’s my sample, using Flamenco Ketto from Stamping Bella. It’s also part of the Bellarific Friday challenge from last week. You can see all the Bella Babes’ and participants cards HERE.

ABC Friday…

Posted by Jen | ABC Friday, MFT, projects | Friday, April 17, 2009

Um, wasn’t it **just** Monday? Time flew by this week! I received some great news yesterday…I got a job at Ellie’s school! It’s a Mother’s Day Out program and I will be in the 4 year old class next year. YAY!

Well, being that is actually is Friday {already}, I have an ABC {Anything But A Card} project to show you. I pulled out a door hanger with pouch template that I had printed off a while ago from Andrea Walford. You can find that template HERE. I modified the measurements to my needs, and this is what I came up with…

Here is a little more of a side shot. I really like how the rounded edges on the pocket part came out. I kept the paper folded in half as I punched with my corner rounder punch.

A little about my design process on this project…
First, I knew that I wanted an all pink hanger, but I knew that I didn’t want a one layer project. So, I used Vintage Cream cardstock {PTI} to mat another layer of Pink Pirouette {SU!}, which I embossed with the Cuttlebug Heart Block embossing folder.
To get the circle cut out of the top of the hanger, I used my circle Nestabilities. Then, I created a scalloped circle frame. I repeated the scallops along the edges of the sentiment panel {SU! Old Olive}. For finishing touches, I added the flowers to the top of the hanger circle with a rhinestone in the center. I also repeated the rhinestones {on a smaller scale} on top of the flowers that Flopsey is holding.

See you tomorrow for another SKETCH FOR YOU TO TRY :)

Because of You…

CALLING ALL LOCALS!
This Saturday is the Imprints “Garage Sale.” What is that? Well, 49 people have sign up and are selling their gently loved craft supplies {stamps, punches, paper…you name it!} at Imprints THIS SATURDAY! This is an event that you do not want to miss! HERE is the link to the site with all the store info. Hope to see you there!

Tomorrow, Verve Stamps is releasing 2 new sets and 4 Plain Janes. Over the last few days there have been several sneak peeks shown on the Verve blog. Today some of the Divas, including myself, are showing peeks from the new set Because of You.

As I said over on the Verve blog post, I started with a few pastel colors in front of me and quickly got bored with them. I dove right into my paper stash and found a couple with polka dots…imagine that! At first, I was just planning on using one of them, but then I found that I liked them paired up together. The flower is from Jillibean Soup {love these guys!} and the rhinestones are some that I found in the $1 section at Michael’s. As for my color combo…brown, pink and green is one that I will never tire of!

Tomorrow night is the Verve Stamps release party HERE {all the deets there, too!}.

See ya tomorrow for another ABC Friday!

Friends Like You Are Priceless…

Ok, I’m toning in down a little today {as opposed to my previous postings this week}. This card features some stamps from the set Downtown Diva from Taylored Expressions. This is actually the first card that I did using this set, but I have waited to show it it to you. Why? No answer for that one, really. I have just been holding onto it. I actually thought that this was going to be the sketch a couple Saturday’s ago, but then changed my mind. That’s me…spacey with little rhyme or reason {well, sometimes}.

apr09_priceless

As you can see, this card incorporates a lot of dots and circles…my fave! I am seriously addicted to this Doodlebug Designs polka dot paper. I bought a sheet in just about every color and it is slowly, but surely, getting used up. I love the sentiment and, although this card is not designed as a gift card holder, I think that it would be a great card to put one in. Maybe I will hold onto this card until I need a card and gift in a pinch.

It’s Wednesday and that means Wiggles ‘n Tunes class…a fun little music class that I go to with Ellie. I think we might hit the library, too, before we come home and I seal that turtle {see yesterday’s post}. We added a few more colors to it last night. It is smokin’ hot now!! ;) Hope you all have a great day.
