Back From NYC & Bella…

Posted by Jen | Bella, Ellie, Family, cards, challenges, random ramblings | Monday, March 9, 2009

We are home again after a fast and fun filled trip to NYC this weekend! WOW! We flew in Friday night, crammed as much as we possibly could on Saturday and then flew back yesterday. When I say that we crammed in as much as we could, I mean it! We were at the Children’s Museum of Manhattan {very cool place!} when the doors opened. From there we headed to Gray’s Papaya for some lunch {we are fans of the show “How I Met Your Mother,” and they always mention this place, so we gave it a shot}. After that we zoomed on over to American Museum of Natural History and took in all the dino action we could get. From there, we hopped a cab over to FAO Shwarz where we {meaning my dear, sweet, beautiful daughter} had a little meltdown over a princess dress, but after a little chat {and a few promises later} did walk out with a toy of her choosing {after playing on the big piano}. After that, a quick snack {I LOVE NY food, so I made sure to get my fill}. Tony and Ellie went back to the hotel for a happy nappy while I hitched a ride {in a cab} over to Greenwich Village to a little {and I mean LITTLE} stamp store called The Ink Pad {very cool place, but teeny tiny. Then, back to the hotel {after 2 cabbies told me “no” to where I was going…on the other side of town}. I rested for a moment and then we headed off to Times Square to take in all the lights and have some real NYC pizza. Whew! Click on the pics below for a larger view.

It was so much fun, but all good things must come to an end and now we are back in Scrunchyville…If you are a Sex In The City fan, you know what this means.

Ok, now onto a little stamping! This is the card that I made for last week’s Bellarific Friday challenge. I love the color inspiration from this picture…

The first Saturday of the month is always exciting, as I get to introduce a new Designer of the Month to you. This month, we have another very talented stamper that is going to be playing along with the SFYTT Sisters.

Please give a warm welcome to Jenn Diercks!!

Here’s a little about Jenn in her own words…
I am a SAHM to two very energetic boys and I have been married to my wonderful husband for over 7 years. Growing up I dabbled in crafts, but it was my Mom who was always the crafty person in our family. As a child I loved to cross stitch. That was about the extent of my crafting skills. Before I had children I was a Special Education teacher for high school students in an alternative day school and the only class I ever struggled with teaching was Art class. My first attempt at stamping was when I made my oldest son’s birth announcements. It was not until 3 years later when I attended a Stampin’ Up! workshop that I fell in love. I signed up two weeks later and have never looked back. Stamping is now a daily part of my life and has been for the last 2 1/2 years. I am thrilled to have this creative outlet and I like that I have my own identity outside of being a wife and mom. The best part of this entire experience is all of the people I have met and become friends with just because we share this incredible hobby. Stampers truly are the best!
I want to thank Jen for the incredible honor she has awarded me in asking me to be the guest designer for the month of March. Sketch Challenges are my favorite of all of the challenges out there and I look forward to playing along with her and her wonderfully creative team for the next few weeks.

Here’s this week’s sketch…

ABC Friday…

Posted by Jen | ABC Friday, Verve, cards, projects | Friday, March 6, 2009

Hey everyone! Welcome to ABC Friday! This week I have a ABC project and a card to show you. They match, so I figured it would be ok to slip in a card on ABC Friday. This set features stamps from the upcoming {Sunday night} Verve Stamps release. I wanted to do something that wasn’t all chocolate bunnies, fuzzy chickies and pastels with no end, so I started this project by picking out a DP {Basic Grey} with black in it. I then chose complimentary colors in cardstock and embellishments to complete the look. I still think that it has a certain softness to it, even though the boldness of black is incorporated.

The box is from Michael’s. It’s one of the hard plastic boxes that you can find in several different sizes. I remembering decorating these for my soccer team when I was younger. Anyone else do something similar?

I made the card before I made the box and then figured that since I liked the colors so much to make it a gift set. The frame was cut out by using nestabilities and then distressed and sponged. The flowers are popped up on dimensionals.

This set, along with 7 other sets and 5 Plain Janes will be released on Sunday night. There will be a release party in the Verve Forum on SCS. If you have ever been to one of these, you know that Julee and Mr. Verve are very generous with give-aways, so you won’t want to miss it. Also, there are chances to win the sets on the Verve blog right now. Good Luck!
