Dirty Sketch and A White Tank Top with No Bra…

Posted by Jen | cards, challenges | Wednesday, September 19, 2007

Are you a SCS Fan Club member? Did you notice all the fun changes in the FC Forum? On the heels of the success of the Dare To Get Dirty Challenges, Julie {Her Rubber Royalty and Dirty Dozen Design Team Coordinator} launched some CH-CH-CH-Changes to the Fan Club Forum. One of them is a monthly sketch. How could I refuse doing this!?!? I love sketch challenges. So, here is my take on the sketch.

The base of the card is on More Mustard and is stamped with the Flower Dots background by JudiKins and sponged with More Mustard. The main image is the sunflower from the SU! Give Thanks set and is stamped with Brilliance Graphite Black ink {my most favoritest ink ever…thank you Kim!!} on SU! watercolor paper and colored in with Copics. The panel is also stamped with Itty Bitty Backgrounds in River Rock and the edges are sponged with More Mustard. The center of the sunflower has Crystal Effects dotted on. Tony says it looks like a chocolate chip cookie, so I was sure to give you a close up shot of it.

Now for a little story that will make you chuckle…

On some mornings Ellie and I go outside and wave bye-bye to Tony as he pulls out of the driveway and drives away. Normally I go out the front door with her and stand on the stoop and Tony goes out the garage door. Today I was wearing my jammies…a white tank top with no bra and some old gym shorts, so I decided to walk out with Tony through the garage. We waved bye-bye and watched him drive away. Then, we turned to go inside and…the door was locked. Hmmmm….I’m in my oh so unflattering jammies with baby in hand and locked out. I start thinking, “Who has the key to our house?” Answer: the neighbors that are at work {crap!!} and my friend that lives 2 blocks over and there is no way that I want to walk past the construction zone to get there {double crap!}. Just then an angel was looking down on me and one of my other neighbors pulls up from dropping her kids off at school. She takes me to my friends house around the block and she is not home {crap crap crap!!}. Fortunately, my dearest life-saver of a neighbor had her cell phone on her and I was able to call Tony. He was probably a few minutes late to class, but at least I am now inside my house with my white tank top with no bra. Time to find a place to hide another spare or get the keyless entry for one of the doors!!!

Tomorrow I’ll be rambling and showing off pic about the awesome time I had shopping and dining with some fellow SCSers yesterday!!!

Name Tag, Random Thoughts and a Card…

Posted by Jen | cards, challenges | Tuesday, September 18, 2007

Sit back and relax. This is gonna be a long {funny} post…

Name Tag…

Kirsten over at Confessions of a Naptime Stamper tagged me. I have seen a bunch of these lists on other’s blogs and each one is just as funny as the next. Hopefully I will give you a chuckle here. :)

1. YOUR ROCK STAR NAME: (first pet & current car) - Scampy Sienna {sounds like this should be my stripper name!!!}

2. YOUR GANGSTA NAME: (fav ice cream flavor, favorite cookie) - Oreo Oreo {same as Kirsten!!}…Just call me “Double O”

3. YOUR “FLY Guy/Girl” NAME: (first initial of first name, first three letters of your last name) - J del

4. YOUR DETECTIVE NAME: (favorite color, favorite animal) - Red Kitty

5. YOUR SOAP OPERA NAME: (middle name, city where you were born) - Marie San Diego {I think I should drop the “San”}

6. YOUR STAR WARS NAME: (the first 3 letters of your last name, first 2 letters of your first) - delje

7. SUPERHERO NAME: (2nd favorite color, favorite drink put “The”) - The Brown Margarita {blech!!}

8. NASCAR NAME: (the first names of your grandfathers) - Ferd Folke

9. STRIPPER NAME: (the name of your favorite perfume/cologne, favorite candy) - Pleasures Chocolate {turn that around and it’s pretty funny!!}

10.WITNESS PROTECTION NAME: (mother’s & father’s middle names ) Lillibel Duane

Some Random Thoughts…

1. Why is the map on Dora The Explorer always yelling “What’s my name?” Next thing you know it’s gonna be, “Who’s your daddy?”
2. The sign behind the pharmacy at Wal-Mart says{something to the affect of} “We’re for America’s Workers.” Is that irony at its finest, or what!?! BTW…I know this because I was staring at it while waiting 5 minutes for an employee to acknowledge my existence there on Monday.
3. The label on my Breyer’s ice cream states that it is made with FRESH milk and cream. As opposed to…..???

A Card…

I made this card using Beate’s Weekend Sketch Challenge. It’s modified a little because I needed to make the sentiment more apparent and it would not have worked against the Chocolate Chip paper that is already stamped with SU!’s Floral background.

The base of the card is 5.5″ square and is stamped with French Script {I reeeeallllly wish they did not retire this!!}. The images and sentiment are from PaperTrey’s Beautiful Blooms set. When I showed Tony this card, he even made a comment about how he liked the font of the sentiment. Who says guys don’t notice these type of things!?! On the main image the flowers are stamped on the main image panel and then 2 were cut out, layered and placed on 1/8″ glue dots. They are topped off with a little rhinestone bling bling. The larger flower is comprised of two of the same images cut out and layered. The center of this flower is the polka dot circle from the Beautiful Blooms set and it is covered with Crystal Effects. The finishing touches on this card are the zig stitches created with my Janome Sew Mini and the Chocolate satin ribbon that was purchased at the Fabric Barn in Long Beach, CA. If you are ever in the area it is ribbon heaven!! Thanks Beate for another wonderful sketch!!

Mojo {Last} Monday…

Posted by Jen | cards, challenges | Monday, September 17, 2007

I finally got around to doing a card with Julee’s Mojo Monday sketch {from last Monday}. I really like how the sentiment is a separate panel on this card. I wouldn’t normally do this on my own; rather, I would just stamp it on the base of the card. I like the way it looks though! This is why I love sketch challenges so much; they get me to try things that I may have thought of, but didn’t go for. I’m already looking forward to the new sketch that she has put up!
The base of this card is Prism cardstock and is stamped with Paisley in Pumpkin Pie. The red cardstock is also from Prism. I chose the Prism cardstock because I colored the image before selecting the paper and these matched a little better than my standard grab of SU! cardstock. However, the blue panel is SU!’s Bashful Blue and is stitched using my Janome Sew Mini. The main image is the poppy image from SU!’s Oh, So Lovely. I colored the image with Copic Ciao markers…man, I love those!!! Finally, the sentiment is from PaperTrey’s Faux Ribbon set. I added the photo corners at the last minute, because this card needed “that little something” to finish it off. I didn’t want anything to draw away from the main image, so I chose to do dark photo corners against the dark red. They make a difference without making too much of a statement…KWIM?

Stamp Camp Projects and a Sketch For You to Try…

Posted by Jen | Stamp Camp, cards, challenges, events, projects | Saturday, September 15, 2007

I have been beyond busy with “stuff” to do. It’s amazing how it piles up. I have not had a chance to stamp just for me, just ‘cuz I want to in a long while. This past week I spent a good chunk of time preparing for stamp camp. Each month I do a card, a 3d item and “something else.” That “something else” usually involves some sort of memory keeper, such as a scrapbook page. This month I did not want to do a scrapbook page, but knew that I had to do something that would involve cute Halloween pictures. I altered this coaster with SU! DP, punches and stamps. Then, I put a heavy duty magnet on the back. I thought of this as the last minute and thought it would be a fun “decoration” that could be kept on the fridge, or could be brought out each year with the other Halloween decor. By the way…I didn’t have any good pics of Ellie to put on here, so I just cut a pic from a magazine.
sc_sept07_pic.jpg

The 3d project that I did was a headstone/coffin filled with candy corn. I got this idea straight from the Better Homes and Gardens Halloween magazine. I am such a fanatic for any boxes or bags and I just love Halloween decor {not so much the holiday or dressing up}, so this really jumped out at me. I used the SU! Sanded bg stamp and sponging to help make it look like an old headstone/coffin. The “R.I.P.” was created using the Rough Edges alpha in Basic Gray. Believe or not, a couple of the ladies wanted to put their husband’s names on these, too. It must be football season!!

sc_sept07_box.jpg

For the card project, I wanted to do something a little different. I went back and forth between an interactive card or the criss cross card. I finally settled on doing an interactive card. The top of the Pumpkin Pie layer is punched with the word window punch twice to make a large opening to put the sliding sentiment into. I love the idea of “there are no mistakes in paper crafting, only opportunities to embellish.” Well, that was certainly the case here. I forgot to put my brads on before I glued it all down. So, trying to be clever, I lifted up the Old Olive layer. Of course it got a little crinkly {technical term!}, so then I just crinkled it some to make it have texture and then added my brads and glued it back down. I actually think it looks a lot better this way!!

My SKETCH FOR YOU TO TRY is to make a sliding sentiment like the card I have shown today. I do not have a template, and there are no rules to doing this. The base of my card measures the standard 4.25 x 5.5″.

Enter If You Dare…

First off…Thank you all for your kind words regarding my last post. It was also called to my attention that I had something at the Paper Crafts online bonus section {yipppeeee}. I thought this was going in next month, but what a very nice surprise. You can see it HERE.
Is everyone ready for Halloween? Can you even get to the Halloween stuff without tripping over Christmas stuff at all the retailers? Tomorrow is my Halloween Stamp Camp and I will be posting our projects here on Saturday, along with a sketch for you to try. The project I have posted today is another rejection {no need to pass the tissues}. I need to add something to it…I’m thinking a spider or bat. I do like this project a lot, but I will admit that I made it in a hurry just to get it in for the deadline. {Maybe that’s why it still needs a little something…huh..go figure!!} The base of this project is a 4×4″ coaster. I added a wire “hanger” that is covered with various ribbons. The paper letters are from my Cuttlebug alphas and the “if you” is stamped in the SU! Rough Edges alpha. Funny thing…this is always on the outside of my studio door. You really never know what to expect when you open those doors!
