I promised some news today and here it is… {drumroll, please}…
I have accepted a position on The Cat’s Pajamas Design Team! YAY!! My friend, Carole has also jumped on with TCP!! Double YAY! I am very excited about this and I can’t wait to see what Alma has in store for us! So to celebrate, I have made a card with one of the newest releases, Loving Mew. These images and sentiments just crack me up!! The “DP” was made using stamps from this set as well-love that I could do that!!

Alma asked us to send her a childhood pic for the DT page. This is the best on that I had on hand {LOL!!}. I can’t believe that I was ever this blonde {naturally!!}. To many that probably explains a whole lot!

Mom update:
My mom is back in the hospital. She developed a hematoma and was admitted very early Sunday morning. She has undergone another surgery to remove the hematoma. All is looking wel. Needless to say, it has been a bumpy ride so far in this journey. Thank you so much for all your thoughts and prayers. They are very appreciated! Many of you emailed me for my mom’s address to send a RAK. Thank you!! I know that she will love the cards!

Last, but certainly not least…Do you notice any small detail that is different on my site? Look up in your address bar and you will see that I now have a customized favicon!! How fun!! Susan’s sister, Sara {say that 3 times fast!} designed it for me. If you are interested in getting your own, they are only $3 and you can see more of Sara’s work HERE. She has done Susan’s site and Amy Westerman’s site, just to name a couple! Oh, BTW…you may want to come back here tomorrow {Tuesday} if you want a chance to win one of these lil’ favicons for yourself!!…along with some other fun goodies! ;)

Sketch For You To Try…

Posted by Jen | Bella, cards, challenges, designer of the month | Saturday, February 16, 2008

YAY! It’s Saturday and time for another sketch for you to try. I made this one late last night after watching a some DVR’d shows and kicking Tony’s rear in Wii bowling. I got FIVE strikes in a row! You’d laugh if you saw me bowling for real. It’s not pretty and I even took a bowling class in college. Yes, seriously!! I needed one credit of anything to graduate and that was what fit best into my schedule. The only requirement from the instructor was that we show up. LOL!! Anyways, the point of me saying that this was done late is because there is an extra panel on this card that is covering up sloppy paper piercing. I actually like how that strip looks across the top, tho!! LOL!
I’ll cut out the yipyap and get to the meat of today’s post. The circle at the top can be a panel of paper or an embellishment of choice.

As always, you can see more fabulous samples from Carole, Shannan and Susan.

**When uploading to SCS, please use the keyword SFYTT** Link in a comment on this post, too. I’m looking forward to seeing what sensational projects you come up with!!!

ABC Friday~Back To Basics, Mom Update and The CHA Pics I Saved For Last…

Posted by Jen | ABC Friday, Bella, MFT, Verve, articles, projects, random ramblings | Friday, February 15, 2008

The first portion of this post can also be seen on the Verve Visual blog. Check in there for more Back To Basic projects over the next few days.

When Julee first told us about the Back to Basics series on the Verve blog, I have to admit that I was a bit apprehensive. What project would I do? Basic…what is the definition of basic? So, I looked through some of my older projects when I did not have a lot to work with and went from there.
I took my creative self to “Remember When…” and this is the creative process journey that I experienced.
First things first, what was I going to do? I decided to do an alterable item. These days I pick up alterables just about wherever I go, but when I first started stamping/paper crafting, I worked solely with what I had. A glass jar, such as this Frappucino bottle is alway fairly simple to come by, so I grabbed one out of my collection as a starting point.
Next, what color scheme did I want to do. Think about it…when you first started stamping, what was the ONE color pad that you got initially? Black, of course. To go with that black ink pad, you probably had some basic colors of paper as well. At one point, I only had black, white and red, so that is what I chose as the overall color scheme here.
I had my project piece and my color scheme, so it was time to pick my stamp set out. Flowers, of course! Black and red flowers, you ask? Yep! Now was the time to get to work and make it work. This is what I came up with…

I did use some of my more current tools (punches), but made sure that this project could be done with no tools, except scissors. I created the scallop edge with my corner rounder punch. This could be done with scissors if you do not have the punch. I wrapped black twill ribbon around the center, which could be replaced with black paper. This also holds true for the ribbon around the edge of the cap. The small red matting square adds a punch of colors with minimal use of product, something that I still find very important. To complete the project, I filled it with Hershey nuggets. I wanted a plain silver look for the candies, so I left them in their “basic” form without fancy labels.
While I was apprehensive about this when I started, I must admit that it was fun to take a look back at where I started and where I am and meld those into a project.

Mom Update:
I want to thank everyone for the outpouring of support! You are all so wonderful!! THANK YOU!!! My mom successfully underwent a double mastectomy yesterday. They did not find anymore cancer in the lymph nodes. I spoke with her in the evening and she sounded a bit groggy from the meds, but overall in good spirits despite the day’s happenings. Thank you all for your thoughts and prayers; they mean so much to me and my family.

It’s always better to save the best for last. The best thing at the CHA show wasn’t the sunny SoCal skies, the paper, the stamps, the inspiration, the stars…it was the real people that I met and hung out with!! I am not even going to try and make a list because we would be here until next month. There aren’t any pics of the Paper Pretties girls, tho {boo!!} They were really very sweet and fun to hang with.

Here are a *few* pics…

One of Those Days…

Posted by Jen | cards, random ramblings | Thursday, February 14, 2008

February 14, 2008…a day that I want to be over with already!

My mom is in surgery today, undergoing a double mastectomy. Many of you know that she was diagnosed with breast cancer last fall. This is the beginning of a long journey for us. Please keep her in your thoughts and prayers.
I have had several people comment or email me about sending her a RAK. I wasn’t sure how she would feel about being RAK’d, but I asked her last night and she would be delighted. So, if you are interested in sending her a RAK, please email me and I can give you the address.

My mom’s surgery/condition was weighing heavy on my mind as I got everything ready this morning for Ellie and Tony. So much so that I ran into our garage door!!! Yes, seriously. A little damage to the garage door, none visible to the car. As if I needed more to rattle my nerves!! I told Tony that we are now even for when he accidentally partially flooded our apartment in San Diego. His reply was that it’s not our home until I run into the garage. From that comment, you can guess that this wasn’t my first go around at this type of thing!

However, today is Valentine’s Day. I got a BEAUTIFUL bouquet of flowers from Tony yesterday. What a sweetie!! I made him this card…

Main image and sentiment are from A Muse. Hearts are from The Cat’s Pajamas {waving HI to Alma}.

For those of you who don’t like Valentine’s Day…Happy {almost} President’s Day. My roommate in college had an admirer that would not take the hint that she had NO interest. He kept asking her out for a date on Valentine’s Day and she kept telling him that she “didn’t do Valentine’s Day.” A few days later, she got a GIGANTIC bouquet of flowers for President’s Day instead from him. While it was a sweet gesture, we had to laugh about it {and still do!}.
