It’s the most, wonderful time, of the year…

As far as I am concerned, Spring sprang on us a few weeks back when pitchers and catchers reported. Many moons ago the family used to trek out to Arizona for spring training. It has always held a special place in my memory bank; mingling with ballplayers and sitting in seats so close you can hear every pop of a mitt. And many of you may not know, but I shanghai-ed Jen for a long weekend to Peoria 5 years ago this month. I managed to sneak in a conversation with her folks for their blessing, and popped the question our second day there. We haven’t been back since – bad memories for Jen? Hmmm…

On top of baseball coming back, with March comes Madness. No two words go as well together this side of “free” and “beer.” College basketball is about to take center stage on 90% of your cable stations so be prepared. I used to have to take naps to stay up for the all the basketball opening weekend.

We’re also that much closer to championship golf. And my man-crush on Tiger Woods continues to grow to unhealthy levels.

Throw in an interesting NBA season for the first time in a decade and I can’t wait to figure out what in the heck-fire is happening!

I mean of course, all of those wonderful things have started or are starting without me (the nerve!). I have been completely lost in my own little world. I’m actually grateful for the writer’s strike, because there is no way Jen would have waited for me to watch CSI or any of our other favorite shows.

Classes this semester are kicking my butt. They are all over the place time wise; I leave here at 8am some mornings and don’t get home until almost 11pm. And of course, it’s all coming to a head this week, as mid-terms cometh.

But let’s pretend that I don’t have 2 papers, 2 projects and 5 finals in the next 4 days, and focus on the positives baby. Positives being that March is upon us, and greatness is about to unfold. Plus, win or lose, pass or fail this week, the week after is Spring Break. And I haven’t had one of those since… well, in too long. I might even take a nap one of those days.

Sketch and People, Not Sketchy People…

Posted by Jen | Verve, cards, challenges, designer of the month | Saturday, March 1, 2008

Hi all!! I can’t believe that it’s Saturday already! YAY!! I titled my post that way because not only do I have another Sketch For You To Try, but I also get to introduce you to two people {which you probably already know!}. As you know, Carole, Shannan and Susan play the sketches with me each Saturday but I decided to ask Amy Sheffer to play each week, too. I got a little nervous when she did not respond to my email after a few days, but then she responded and said yes {quite emphatically, I might add :)} So, YAY, Amy will be playing along from her blog on Saturdays!!
The second person that I have to introduce you to is someone that I got to meet at CHA, and I asked her to be the Guest Designer for the month of March. I don’t know if you recall, but I changed it up a little last month and instead of having a gallery for the Guest Designers, I am featuring their work here each Saturday. So, let me cut out the yip yap and introduce the super sweet…Joanne Basile!!

a bit about Joanne in her own words…
Oh my goodness, was I ever excited when Jen asked me to be her Guest Designer for the Month of March. I’ve been an avid reader of her blog for a long time and was thrilled to get to meet up in person recently at CHA!
When a good friend of mine asked me to join her Stampin Up six month club about two years ago, I said “Oh, that’s so not for me. I’m not creative at all!” However, I said I’d give it a try just for a regular girl’s night out with my friends. Apparently all you had to do was put a stamp in my hand, (and maybe a glass of wine in the other) and look where I ended up!! I’m now a demonstrator for Stamping Up myself, and I’m currently on two design teams – Paper Pretties and Gina K Designs. You can find me stamping every spare minute I can find. My stamping space has grown from a small Rubbermaid tote with some stamps and paper to an overflowing corner of the basement and my own personal stockpile of alterables to have in hand when friends and family call looking for “just a little something.” This month will mark my blogaversary – its been a wonderful way to chronicle my creative endeavors, and I can’t believe how many wonderful friendships I’ve made. It has been an amazing journey and I can’t wait to see where it leads next!

Here’s the sketch for this week. A little different, huh!?! I had a lot of fun with it. You don’t have to limit yourself to circles and squares, but rather repeat 2 different shapes. I stuck with circles and squares because I had some ideas floating through my head when I created the sketch. I can’t believe that I used purple, too!! What is this world coming to????

a detail shot…
I used my clear Spica pen to give the wings a little shimmer. The butterfly is mounted on a dimensional on top of a butterfly that I colored on that panel.

I hope you all will play along! When uploading to SCS, please use the keyword SFYTT. And, don’t forget to leave a comment here linking your beautiful creativity. More samples can be found on the blogs of Amy, Carole, Shannan and Susan. Have a wonderful weekend!!
