It’s the most, wonderful time, of the year…
Mar 2nd, 2008 by Tony
As far as I am concerned, Spring sprang on us a few weeks back when pitchers and catchers reported. Many moons ago the family used to trek out to Arizona for spring training. It has always held a special place in my memory bank; mingling with ballplayers and sitting in seats so close you can hear every pop of a mitt. And many of you may not know, but I shanghai-ed Jen for a long weekend to Peoria 5 years ago this month. I managed to sneak in a conversation with her folks for their blessing, and popped the question our second day there. We haven’t been back since – bad memories for Jen? Hmmm…
On top of baseball coming back, with March comes Madness. No two words go as well together this side of “free” and “beer.” College basketball is about to take center stage on 90% of your cable stations so be prepared. I used to have to take naps to stay up for the all the basketball opening weekend.
We’re also that much closer to championship golf. And my man-crush on Tiger Woods continues to grow to unhealthy levels.

Throw in an interesting NBA season for the first time in a decade and I can’t wait to figure out what in the heck-fire is happening!
I mean of course, all of those wonderful things have started or are starting without me (the nerve!). I have been completely lost in my own little world. I’m actually grateful for the writer’s strike, because there is no way Jen would have waited for me to watch CSI or any of our other favorite shows.
Classes this semester are kicking my butt. They are all over the place time wise; I leave here at 8am some mornings and don’t get home until almost 11pm. And of course, it’s all coming to a head this week, as mid-terms cometh.
But let’s pretend that I don’t have 2 papers, 2 projects and 5 finals in the next 4 days, and focus on the positives baby. Positives being that March is upon us, and greatness is about to unfold. Plus, win or lose, pass or fail this week, the week after is Spring Break. And I haven’t had one of those since… well, in too long. I might even take a nap one of those days.

Good luck Tony it was not that long ago that I was in your shoes with school and it sucks trying to balance a family and school. My son constantly reminds me of the March Madness he is a basketball fanatic. And football and baseball and etc. Take care and enjoy spring break. Stacy
Hey Tony….I remember all too well taking college courses while working full-time, having my 2 girls, raising them with my husband, building a house, etc. etc. (Took me 11 years to earn my Bachelors going this route) My thoughts go out to you and Jen as it really takes ‘team work’ to accomplish all those goals you have set out for yourselves. Our favorite pasttime for March Madness is going to Vegas to watch the games on the HUGE screens. My husband is just itching to head out there….it’s like senioritise. I wish you well with everything due this next week for classes….hang in there! Soak in the homework-free time with your family….it will go by fast! Lori
I with you on the baseball and so is the hubby. We cannot wait to get baseball started and have already been looking into tickets to see a game now that we are living close to a baseball stadium, or two, or three
Good luck on the midterms. I tell you I don’t miss those but looking forward to getting back and finishing my college. I have my AS already but need my Bachelor’s and I am sure much more schooling to get a teaching degree.
Have fun during spring break.
go heels!
Sounds like you’re procrastinating on getting a few things done while you’re writing this post! I can’t wait for baseball season either! Yep, I’m one of those die-hard Red Sox fans…and what about my Celtics?! Sounds like you could use a break! Good luck on the mid-terms! Jeanne
I am salivating at the NBA season too. Pistons all the way! I hope for either Dallas or Phoenix in the wast. Just watched the MSU game verses Indiana, now will find time to eat. I know no other women into sports like me and they actually feel threatened. SO I putz along (even sneaking out during my son’s wedding last year to take in part of the playoffs) Oh, a game just came on ABC (I have rabbit ears for local) gotta run-food can wait.
Go Cubbies! Will this be the year–I never give up! I also love football (da Bears–of course), NASCAR, Golf, NBA is okay–just not a fan of hockey. Good luck on your all finals, papers, projects. etc. Darlene
Good luck Tony on all your papers, projects and finals!
I don’t get into the College Basketball thing, although it does take over the tv here in Canada too! No good tv shows on, but with the writers strike it won’t matter anyway! LOL!
I’m more of a Nascar and hockey fan(can’t be Canadian without loving hockey).
Hope whatever teams you cheer for win!
Best of luck this week in school!
Tony…it is cool that you told us about what “happened” 5 years ago. How sweet.
Good luck with all of your tests, projects. etc. I wish you all the best.
Jules
Cannot wait for March Madness - WOO HOO; bring on the basketball!
