Anniversary Birds…

Posted by Jen | Family, Verve, cards | Thursday, February 28, 2008

Before I get started on my post for today, I just want to remind you that I have some SU! sets for sale on the post below this one. Check ‘em out, you may just want one to follow you home. ;)

There are one, two, THREE super cute sets being released on March 1 from Verve Visual. The set that I am featuring here today is called Anniversary Birds. Birds are definitely “hot” right now {yep, that sounds weird}, so I was so excited to see that Julee designed a set with birds. This card is for my parents that are celebrating their 30th anniversary next week. It is no surprise to me that their love has endured the test of time, and all the other day to day pressures of a marriage. They have always been wonderful relationship role models. Thanks Mom and Dad for teaching me what love is and what it means to be loved. I hope {and plan} that 25 years down the road that my daughter will be giving me a similar card and saying similar things about her {incredible} parents. ;)

ABC Friday~Back To Basics, Mom Update and The CHA Pics I Saved For Last…

Posted by Jen | ABC Friday, Bella, MFT, Verve, articles, projects, random ramblings | Friday, February 15, 2008

The first portion of this post can also be seen on the Verve Visual blog. Check in there for more Back To Basic projects over the next few days.

When Julee first told us about the Back to Basics series on the Verve blog, I have to admit that I was a bit apprehensive. What project would I do? Basic…what is the definition of basic? So, I looked through some of my older projects when I did not have a lot to work with and went from there.
I took my creative self to “Remember When…” and this is the creative process journey that I experienced.
First things first, what was I going to do? I decided to do an alterable item. These days I pick up alterables just about wherever I go, but when I first started stamping/paper crafting, I worked solely with what I had. A glass jar, such as this Frappucino bottle is alway fairly simple to come by, so I grabbed one out of my collection as a starting point.
Next, what color scheme did I want to do. Think about it…when you first started stamping, what was the ONE color pad that you got initially? Black, of course. To go with that black ink pad, you probably had some basic colors of paper as well. At one point, I only had black, white and red, so that is what I chose as the overall color scheme here.
I had my project piece and my color scheme, so it was time to pick my stamp set out. Flowers, of course! Black and red flowers, you ask? Yep! Now was the time to get to work and make it work. This is what I came up with…

I did use some of my more current tools (punches), but made sure that this project could be done with no tools, except scissors. I created the scallop edge with my corner rounder punch. This could be done with scissors if you do not have the punch. I wrapped black twill ribbon around the center, which could be replaced with black paper. This also holds true for the ribbon around the edge of the cap. The small red matting square adds a punch of colors with minimal use of product, something that I still find very important. To complete the project, I filled it with Hershey nuggets. I wanted a plain silver look for the candies, so I left them in their “basic” form without fancy labels.
While I was apprehensive about this when I started, I must admit that it was fun to take a look back at where I started and where I am and meld those into a project.

Mom Update:
I want to thank everyone for the outpouring of support! You are all so wonderful!! THANK YOU!!! My mom successfully underwent a double mastectomy yesterday. They did not find anymore cancer in the lymph nodes. I spoke with her in the evening and she sounded a bit groggy from the meds, but overall in good spirits despite the day’s happenings. Thank you all for your thoughts and prayers; they mean so much to me and my family.

It’s always better to save the best for last. The best thing at the CHA show wasn’t the sunny SoCal skies, the paper, the stamps, the inspiration, the stars…it was the real people that I met and hung out with!! I am not even going to try and make a list because we would be here until next month. There aren’t any pics of the Paper Pretties girls, tho {boo!!} They were really very sweet and fun to hang with.

Here are a *few* pics…

Posted by Jen | Verve, cards, projects | Thursday, February 7, 2008

I am leaving for CHA {yipppeeeee} on Friday morning and getting everything in my life together this week has been CRAZY! I don’t have a lot of bloggin’ time, so I am showing you A BUNCH samples from the Verve release. The stamps officially go on sale on the 10th, but they are available for pre-order NOW. In addition to that good news, Julee {Verve’s creative genius} is offering 15% off ALL stamps, including the new releases, AND free shipping on sales over $40.

The following 2 samples are from the new Serenity set.

I love mini cards!! This card measures 3×3 and features the Thoughtful Florals set.

Finally, these projects feature the Fancy Floral Remixed set. The Wild Wasabi and Sage Shadow card is for one of my half brothers who just lost his mother last week. Did I mention that I love mini cards?!?! This is a template that Nichole gave on her blog. I have used it already and filled it with yummies, but thought that it would be fun to make a matching card set to go with it. There are 4 cards that each have one of the four sentiments that are in the set. I also stamped the mini envies with one of the flowers.

The Verve Visual Honored Guest Contest
Want to be a designer for Verve Visual? Well, now’s your chance! We’re having a card contest that gives everybody the opportunity to strut their stuff. All you have to do is make a card using the following sketch and submit a link to an online photo of your card by Friday, February 15. Please submit links as a comment on the January 30 Verve Visual Blog post. Since we want everyone to have a shot, you don’t even have to use Verve Visual stamps (although we LOVE it when you do)! Just create a stamped masterpiece that makes us ooh and ahh using the provided sketch.

A winner will be announced on Monday, February 18 and will be our Honored Guest for the month of March. Our Honored Guest will receive the same kit our Design Team receives, including pre-releases of the new Verve sets releasing in March. The winner will be required to submit 6 projects using the pre-release stamps. We will also be doing some random prize drawings throughout the contest, so be sure to get your cards submitted! There is no limit to the number of cards you can submit, and the contest is open to everyone, including previous Verve Guest Designers.

So, if this sounds up your alley, get your mojo in motion and start stamping!

Here’s the sketch…
