a’ la modes + giveaway…

Posted by Jen | MFT, cards | Thursday, March 17, 2011

I have had fun playing with the a’ la modes line from My Favorite Things lately! These are unlike most of the other stamps offered by MFT, as they are real rubber!! Kinda takes me back to when I first started stamping. Now these aren’t wood mounted, but rather cling {YAY!}. That definitely makes storage a lot easier and I like being able to place the stamp on the acrylic block on my own…or as Ellie would say, “By my own self.”

On a side note, did you see that some of the Pure Innocence stamps are now in cling rubber, too? I haven’t had a chance to get my hands on any of those yet, but I am sure that I will be adding to my collection soon!

Being that it is St. Patrick’s day today, I had to make a card that incorporated green and this a’ la mode, Wishing You Luck

***I happen to have an extra of this set and would like to give it away to one of my readers. Just leave a comment and I will draw a random name on Sunday on contact you via email if you are the winner***

As you can see, Stella and Rose from My Mind’s Eye has become a fast fave in my stamping room. As for the details, I used my handy dandy scallop circle punch from SU! as the base for the die cut flowers {from the Flower and Leaf Trio Die-Namics-currently sold out} and topped them off with a button laced with linen thread. The rhinestones were the perfect finishing touch {thanks to my MFT secret Santa, Barbara for those!!}.

Inside of the card, using the Hearts A Plenty and Dainty Lace Border Die-Namics

LOVE LOVE LOVE that sentiment!

Here’s another a’ la mode card that I made a little while ago. I have to admit that the concept of this card was way cuter in my head than it came out on/with paper. This one uses the Something’s Fishy a’ la mode

I’m starting to thinking that I should have titled this post ‘Luck + Crap.’ LOL!! or Crappie Luck?? ;)

Don’t forget…Leave some love for a chance to win the Wishing You Luck set!

You’re My Favorite Hello…

Posted by Jen | MFT, cards | Thursday, March 10, 2011

Today I am going to the dentist. Ugh!! You’re probably thinking “No big deal.” However, I haven’t been in a long time and now I have to go because something hurts. I.am.not.happy.about.this. When asked how long it had been since my last cleaning, the receptionist even responded with surprise. NOTE: This did not help!! Last time I checked, they didn’t offer childcare or extended hours! While not afraid, I am little annoyed by the whole situation and don’t wanna go! Keep me in your thoughts today!

Between arranging childcare {for today’s dental adventure} and toting kiddos back and forth to swim lessons and soccer practice I did manage to get some stamping done. One of the newest releases from My Favorite Things is this cute set, My Favorite Hello {from the Flapper Doodle line}…

hello

I wrapped wrinkled ribbon around the card and tied it in a bow twice, topping it off with a Prima and button with TCP Linen Thread {swoooon!}. I went with my standby fave of doing a sentiment flag. I used a button and gold flatback acrylic from Stamping Bella to anchor it.

I love the new Stella & Rose paper line from My Mind’s Eye and think that it paired perfectly with this set. I used it on the inside, too…

hello_inside

I couldn’t resist the Hello, Hello, Hello for the inside {just like the Metro PCS commercials}. I used the Simply Scallops Die-Namics die with the green pattern paper for a little added interest. This might be my favorite, or at least my go-to MFT die! I always seem to be reaching for it.

HiHo HiHo to the dentist I will go!

Die-Namics Home Decor Project…

Posted by Jen | Ellie, MFT, challenges, projects, scrappy creations | Monday, March 7, 2011

It’s time for the March Creative Challenge from the My Favorite Things DT. This month we are bringing you home decor projects made using the MFT Die-Namics dies. We recently did a makeover on Ellie’s room. It used to be painted green and she was BEGGING us to paint it pink. So, a couple weeks ago when she went to Disneyland with family in California, Tony and I got busy and painted it “Fairest of Them All.” Four nights and three coats of paint later, she had a pink room. I also added some flowers and butterflies throughout room {pics coming soon…PROMISE!}, so I thought that it would be fun to make something with the Die-Namics Butterflies that would compliment the rest of the decor.

My inspiration came solely from THIS project Making Memories.

Although, I had a lot of trouble capturing a good picture of my mobile I hope from the several mediocre ones that I did get you can see how it came out {cute, if I do say so myself!}…
butterflymobile4

I cut out A LOT of butterflies from the Echo Park Springtime {and Little Girl??} line and attached them to clear thread hanging from the inside circle of an embroidery circle.

I added tulle around the embroidery circle to make it a little more POOF-Y…

One suggestion I would make if you choose to do one of these…Attach your tulle before attaching your line of butterflies {or whatever suits you}. I don’t know what I was thinking doing these in reverse, but I did and it was a mess at times. All of the strings would have had 3 large, 3 medium and 3 small butterflies, but some of the strings got tangled. Then, more got tangled. Words were said and scissors made an appearance. I like what I ended up with still, but it was a learning {the hard way} experience!

Ok, enough of my jibber jabbering! There are lots of home decor items to see from many of the MFT girls! You can see a full list on Kim’s blog HERE! Enjoy!!

linkicons_amber_ink_links_181x154_compact

Here’s a little about AmberInk
AmberInk was started by a mother and daughter team. Amber lives in the East, Pam lives in the West. Amber is an Emmy nominated children’s animator and illustrator, who creates from her Brooklyn, New York studio. Although they do carry some clear stamps, the company runs by the premise that their customers are more brilliant than patient. If you’ve been a diehard clear or rubberstamper, they can even help you with the transition to digital. And don’t worry about asking a silly question, because as a retired public high school teacher, Pam has already seen it all. Check out the ever-increasing tutorial links, which you can find on the homepage. Hailing from the Hawaiian Islands, the Aloha Spirit is alive and well at AmberInk.com.

AmberInk has generously donated a $15 gift certificate to one lucky March SFYTT participant that uses one the adorable {or NAKED!} AI images. Good luck!

So about my card…
I made my card on Thursday so that it would be done, photo’d, edited and posted on time. Now, I already mentioned that it wasn’t my favorite card of all time yesterday and that was for several reasons. First, it took me FOREVER to color. The image isn’t that complex, but I was {apparently} having some issues! Then, I tried to cut out the blank space of the image and totally messed that up…royally. Since it took me so long to color, I didn’t want to toss it and have all that time wasted, so I did a little CPR on it to getting it looking at least good enough to put on the card. Next, I my sewing machine did a little “over sewing.” I tried doing a zig-zag stitch and the paper didn’t want to move through smoothly so…well, it just wasn’t pretty like I wanted it. Now, we have all created cards that aren’t our favorite and that’s ok. BUT… last night I went to post the sketch on Facebook and realized…I DID THE WRONG SKETCH!!! Seriously people, I did the WRONG sketch!! I had spent a good portion of the day hammering out details for April’s sketch and, well, that’s the sketch I did. When that was realized I had to remake the card. I still didn’t want to have to re-make the ENTIRE thing over again, so I salvaged the main image panel and worked in the rest of the details. Of course, there wasn’t any natural light to be had so that I could get a decent picture, therefore, I am waiting to take the pic this morning, edit it and put it

right here.

Luckily, I have another GREAT Designer of the Month who did do the right sketch. Please welcome…

Shelley Dupont

marchguest

A little about Shelley in her own words…
Hi! I’m so honored to be this month’s SFYTT guest designer!! My name is Shelley Dupont, and I live just outside Calgary, Alberta. I am a hairstylist, and have owned my salon for 12 years. I have 2 daughters aged 9 and 5 1/2. After my youngest was born, I sold my salon and my husband built me a salon in my home, and have been loving that ever since! I have been known to even craft a little in between clients! LOL! I started stamping 6 years ago, and love to craft a little everyday. I love paper piecing, buttons and my copic markers!
