MFT Sneak Peek…

Posted by Jen | MFT, cards | Monday, July 5, 2010

Greetings! It’s release week for My Favorite Things and all of the wonderful sneak peeks have begun. Be sure to check out Kim’s blog for some great peeks at the sets, release details, as well as links to all of the DT members that have peeks going on their blogs.

Today I get to show you one of the newest stamp sets from the Pure Innocence line, Cheerleader {and a itty bitty peek at the Boy & His Dog Football Player}…

pi_cheer

I did the green and gold because I will be displaying this card at my LSS and one of the local school colors around there is green and gold. I wanted to do something fun with these girls, so a colored ‘em in, cut ‘em out and stacked ‘em up just like real cheerleaders. These would be fun to do on a scrapbook page and you could do it on a larger scale {more cheerleaders}. As for the paper, the cloud pattern paper is from My Little Shoebox and the green pattern paper is from My Mind’s Eye. I used some of my {beloved} Prism Intense Kiwi for the grass, which is cut with the MFT Fresh Cut Grass Die-Namic.

I even did the inside of the card. I’m new at insides, so bear with me as I stick to the basics for now…

That’s all for me for today. See you tomorrow for another peek at some new MFT stamps that will be released on Wednesday.

Winner Announced & First Saturday of the Month…

Posted by Jen | MFT, SFYTT 2010, cards, challenges, designer of the month | Saturday, July 3, 2010

Congrats to the SFYTT participant and winner of the $30 Verve Stamps gift certificate…
CHRIS BLASGRAVE!!

Chris, just send me an email {link under my pic} and I will get that code to you :)

Happy First Saturday of the Month! I hope everyone is having a fun holiday weekend! We are laying low here, which is just fine with me! I would love to go see some fireworks, but they aren’t even starting until 9:30 and that’s just not do-able with our bed time routines this year.

Given that this is the first Saturday of the month, I get to introduce the new DESIGNER OF THE MONTH…YAY!! Drumroll for the super talented…SANDRA MacLEAN!

Here’s a little bit about Sandra in her own words…
Hi, my name is Sandra MacLean and I’m sooooo excited to be this month’s guest designer!! By day I work for a huge grocery distributor as a CAD technician, and when I get home I’m mum to a spunky 5 year old little girl and wife to my very understanding man. I am a New Zealand born, Australian raised, citizen of the USA! My husband and I actually met in a VW restoration website and we’v'e been married for almost 10 years! Three years ago, I didn’t have any interest in stamping until a friend suggested I check out SCS. That’s when I discovered a whole side of stamping I had never seen before and I was hooked! I have always been able to color, but the card making process is still new to me. Every stamping session is a battle on which paper to choose and what layout will work the best (that’s why I’m always using Jen’s sketches for my cards - it’s one less decision to make!)The day I can make a card in under 3 hours will be a day to celebrate! LOL

Here’s this week’s sketch…

Four years ago today, I was at my neighborhood Albertson’s as pregnant as they come. Some guy in the parking lot walks by and says, “Man, you are HUGE!” Even though he was right, he was so lucky I could not run after him! A few days later, on my dad’s birthday {July 7} I was admitted to Labor & Delivery. Ellie ended up being born the next day, because she wasn’t about to have to share her birthday apparently! I’ll show you her birthday card next week, but for today I am going to share my dad’s birthday card, using MFT’s, Grow Love Plant a Tree set {which is one of my fave paper piecing sets!!}…

My Favorite Things will be releasing a bunch {and I mean whole lot!} of new stamps this Wednesday. Sneak peeks have started and starting on Monday you will be seeing a few peeks from me, too.

Here’s Sandra’s sample {I envy her coloring skills!}…

happy birthday to you
happy birthday to you
happy birthday dear kim
happy birthday to you!

Kim van der Sanden, of MFT {ownership} fame, is celebrating her 29th birthday {AGAIN!} and we have arranged for a {not so little} blog hop{ish} to celebrate!

Kim, I hope you have a beautiful birthday that is everything you wish for and more! You make life sweet!…

This card uses the MFT Pure Innocence stamp, Make Mine a Double {one of my favorite PIs!!}. You’ll notice that I played with patterns and colors to create a fun card that doesn’t follow all the rules. Don’t be afraid to mix and match papers to get the look you want.

On a quick other MFT note, did you see the announcement of the new DT on Kim’s blog yesterday. It’s exciting that there are some new faces and there are 3 teams that will be designing for MFT. Lots of fun to come, I’m sure! Ok, if you haven’t hit up all the other birthday wishes for Kim here’s the list…hope you have some coffee, there’s lots and lots of eye candy here!!

For Susan…

sliles3

As you have probably read from her blog, Susan’s husband, Eric, is currently undergoing treatment for a very aggressive form of lymphoma. Through this battle, my BFF has always found a way to make lemonade out of the crappy lemons life has been handing her and her family lately. I admire her strength to smile on days that I know are filled with rain clouds. Eric is strong and is making it through the treatments one day at a time. There have definitely been some setbacks with adverse reactions {meaning kidney function, fevers, and complete loss of appetite} and needed transfusions. And, the reality of it is that the bills are adding up and Eric is out of sick time at work. This is where you can help!

My Favorite Things, Verve Stamps and The Cat’s Pajamas are having a benefit sale Friday through Sunday (EDIT) with 10% off your purchase and a portion of the proceeds benefit the Liles’ family. You can support them and get stamps…win, win!!

OR

There is a DONATE button on the side of her blog. You can read more about it on THIS post that her sister and friend wrote. If you have any questions in regards to this, please contact Sheila {a longtime friend of Susan’s} at sheila@remember4faith.com

Tonight I am bringing them some BBQ chicken, pasta salad and sliced strawberries to hopefully ease the day to day stuff that goes on with or without cancer knocking at your door. I hope you can my friend, too!

PS-I love what Alma wrote on her blog about our friend. You can read her post HERE.
