Sketch For You To Try…

Happy {football season} Saturday! I am happy that football season is here. We have plans to have a couple friends and their kiddos over tonight to watch the Oklahoma game {no comments from the peanut gallery on last week’s performance, please!}. BOOMER SOONER! Ellie is learning early to love the Sooners and dislike the Longhorns. Whenever she sees a longhorn on someone’s car, she says “Ewwww, gross, it’s a longhorn.” We have told her that she is not allowed to say that to people, though. Instead she just says, “Boomer Sooner” to them. The grocery store sells both Sooner and Longhorn gear and they happen to be right next to each other and she likes to remind me, “Mama, don’t touch that orange stuff!” LOL! She cracks me up!

It’s been a super busy week! I am working at the preschool and now at the local scrapbook store. Yes, I am a bit crazy taking on both of these ventures in the 2nd half of my pregnancy. Fortunately, both a very lenient employers and neither is a terribly stressful job. There was a crazy moment in my preschool class on Thursday where one of the boys decided to inspect his business in the middle of class. The words couldn’t come fast enough…”Put it back!” LOL! Oh my, these kids are prepping me for baby boy del Muro!! BTW…we are still trying to figure out a name and welcome any {well, most…LOL!} suggestions. We both like more “regular” names as opposed to the trendy names {like all those ending in -den these days}. Ellie had her 3 year well check this past week, too. We have to get a Physical Therapy evaluation later this month to check on her lack jumping “skills” and some general clumsiness. Poor kid! The doc said that clumsiness can be genetic {I had to giggle at that!, and even though I wouldn’t consider either Tony or I graceful, I wouldn’t go as far as clumsy. We’ll see what the PT has to say. I don’t think that it’s anything major. The pedatrician even said that it doesn’t necessarily seem like anything is wrong, but something isn’t quite right. Grrrrrreat! I guess it could be worse though! On top of that, she has an umbilical hernia that may need to be corrected in the next couple of years if it doesn’t go back in on it’s own. Poor baby!!

Blah, blah blah…I need to get on with the sketchy-sketch post! Here is the sketch for this week…

Great sketch Jen, and I won’t say Go Cougars to loud either, haha. Sorry Jen they are our team I couldn’t help myself. Sorry about the quarterback though, that stinks. Hope he recovers soon!!

It’s so great to have more stamping football fans!!! Miami Dolphins are the household favorite here :)

You’re doing what I did when I was pregnant - lol try to find some time to relax and good luck with everything regarding your daughter.

    Great Sketch!

UCLA is my hubby’s college team - he loves watching college football and basketball. I’m having flashbacks on my pregnancies when I read about yours LOL. Amazing how the memories come back.

As for names, our son is Benjamin (named after my dad), there is also Andrew, Noah, Caleb, Malachi Tanner, Ryan. Actually, the best thing I did was get a 30,000 Baby Name book and poured over it to find some names I liked and then DH and I would review it, toss out any names we didn’t like (most often due to having had a bad associations/experiences with someone who had that name). Lots of amazing names in those books - may be worth trying out. Good luck :D

I had to laugh at your preschool ‘experience’. You will find it SO different with a boy!! There will be dirt in places you never thought existed, and all those things that Ellie never got into, your boy WILL! :)

    Both cards are stunning!!

Boomer Sooner!! Unfortunately we can’t get the game out here, even on Pay-per-view (it’s not in the PPV lineup, apparently not enough Sooners in Hawaii I guess). So we’ll be huddled around the computer listening to it on the radio!

Also, I had to laugh about your preschool boy experience! I find myself reminding 2-yr-old Dean almost daily that “Dean, if you want to play with that, you need to go in your room and do it in private”. LOL.

Great sample, Jen (& Gretchen)! I had fun with this week’s sketch! Good luck with your preschool kids - too funny about the “incident” this week

LOL @ your pre-school class experience! I have an almost 2 yr old boy, and an almost 6 yr old girl… so I had to adjust to some new things too! Like when changing the morning diapers! (lol!… totally caught me off guard… just watch out for that!)

And… on another note… I must stay loyal to my family (Go ‘Horns!), and to my alma mater here in the SEC… Geaux Tigers! :-) But you know what… I like ANY crafter who is a football fan! We’re few and far between! :-)

And for the sketch… SO FUN!!! I can’t wait to try it! :-) You and your team did a pretty awesome job! :-)

I love keeping up on your blog and congratulations on the pregnancy. We’re going to start trying again (hopefully soon!) We have a 3 yr old little girl named Alison. I’m with you on the names… I love the traditional names which seem to be uncommon lately. I always said if I have another girl I wanted to name her Sophia. Anyway - ideas on boys names that I always had in mind: Dillion (my favorite) , Douglas, Jeffrey, Raymond (Ray). Good luck choosing a name. One of my tricks is I listen to the names in movies that I watch. For instance, Alison - we got from the movie The Notebook :-)

Hey Jen! Hope all is going well with you! Sorry to hear that Ellie may need some surgery in a couple of years. Keeping my fingers crossed all works out for her!

I have today off and couldn’t wait to give your sketch a go!

I love your scrappy card.. it looks so professional! makes me want a slice (not that i already have a cricut that’s been used once! gah.) ;)

  12. Comment by Lisa Kind — September 13, 2009 @ 6:40 am

Aren’t little boys hysterical with their “business’? Too funny! Hope Ellie outgrows her clummsiness and that other thing (forgot what it was!).

How about James for a boy? That was my brother’s name. He passed away from cancer at 46…that was 12 years ago and I still miss him dearly!

Anyway, the reason I came here was to link my card, not get all teary-eyed! Loved the sketch! Here’s my card:

Hi Jen, loved your card! I saw that slice cartridge and wondered if I would get enough use out of it - of course I never envisioned a card like yours. Your crativity amazes me.

    Here’s my take. http://craftycath.blogspot.com/2009/09/dual-sfytt.html

I actually used the layout for two cards. My husband thought I was nuts when I said they were the same layout - they look so different when you change the papers and images up.

Thanks and have a great week!

    Jen,
Great sketch and great card. So simple and so fun.
Loved the stories, and best wishes for a good turnout with Ellie’s issues. I know you said you were looking for traditional names, but I can’t help wonder if Boomer wouldn’t be appropriate for a boy in your household. It’s a strong name and guarenteed to fit a mischeiveous fun loving soul. Not to mention the football ties! Sleep on it. Who knows you may love it! If I come up with anything else I will post it for consideration by you and your family. Enjoy.

Amazing DT examples! I loved the sketch & just “had” to play along! Hope you had fun with your family watching football! BTW I love my Cricut for scrapbooking but I agree not very useful with card making! I returned my Slice as it was defective & the images were sooo distorted! :( I am waiting for a new and improved version :) Thanks for this challenge! I linked with Mr. Linky but just in case here it is again:
