Sketch For You To Try and a New Designer of the Month…

Posted by Jen | Ellie, Family, MFT, cards, challenges, designer of the month | Saturday, November 1, 2008

So, did you survive Halloween on a Friday night? We shut things down fairly early so that we wouldn’t have barking dogs and a sleeping toddler. Ellie actually had a pretty sad Halloween. It started with her waking up at 5 am needing a breathing treatment. By 9 am we were in the doctor’s office getting oral steroids and further breathing treatments. We finally {it’s been months} got an official diagnosis of asthma. Poor thing!! She started coming around by trick or treating time, so she was able to go out to a few houses. So cute! She dressed up as a bumble bee and said “buzz buzz buzz” all night. Here she is just before we went out…

Well it’s the first Saturday of the month so I have a new SKETCH FOR YOU TO TRY and a new DESIGNER OF THE MONTH…Becca Feeken of Amazing Paper Grace.

Here is a little about Becca, in her own words…
When Jen first wrote me to ask me to be a Designer of the Month, my husband had to hold my typing fingers so that I didn’t write back to ask her…Me? Really? Seriously, I’m honored that she asked! I’m a long time reader and fan of a Sketch for You To Try.

I’ve been stamping for more than 10 years – or rather I should say “collecting”. I left my job 2 years ago to devote time to my family’s needs. It allowed me to refocus and set aside some of my free time to this addicting hobby. I’m finally diving into my huge collection and inking the “un-inked”. My blog and the people who visit give me a reason to make the next card and the next post.

They say that one often meets his destiny in the road he takes to avoid it. So true! Over a year ago I began reading blogs but was convinced it would never appeal to me, I was content to be a wallflower. My blog Amazing Paper Grace and my SCS identity, Becca Stamps, have opened the door to countless friendships in addition to relationships with the incredibly supportive companies who have allowed me to work on their teams: Friends of Flourishes Blog Team and Design Team for Our Daily Bread Designs. I look forward to working with Jen for the next month as well as seeing the fabulous creations everyone posts of her fantastic sketches.

Here’s the sketch for this week…

My sample, using My Favorite Things stamps that will be released this Wednesday, November 5…

Becca’s gorgeous sample…

Check out the samples from a few of my stampin’ friends, Amy R., Amy S., Carole, Shannan and Susan!

Wanna play? Here’s what you should know…
1. ANYONE can play.
2. Have fun with this!
3. When uploading to SCS, use the keyword SFYTT.
4. Post a link to your blog or gallery on this post.

Jen, you really know how to pick them! Becca is one person that I follow DAILY!!!! Her designs are so AMAZING - I just wish I had half her talent - I guess I’m hoping some of it will rub off on me. So far no such luck. LOL. Her snowman card is Gorgeous as usual. What can I say? I like your cupcake too - always did enjoy paper-piecing!

Ellie is an awfully cute bee - sorry she had such a rotten day. Hopefully, now with the diagnosis you will be able to treat it better.

    Linda

Oh no, sorry to hear about Ellie’s day. Been there, I’ve been living with asthma for about 14 years and so not fun. Good thing is that when it’s diagnosed when you’re a child there’s a good chance to outgrow it as adults…here’s hoping for her!

Love the sketch and both samples! Huge congrats to Becca - so excited she’s your featured stamper…looking forward to seeing her creations!

My little fair complected strawberry blond has trouble with asthma also. She had her first asthma attack at about two and a half years. Before that she had had no symptoms. She had bad exema as a baby. The allergy Dr. said sometimes fair complected kids with exema will develop asthma as they get older. I thought this was crazy! What does skin have to do with breathing?? But sure enough, she developed it. One of her worst nights was a Halloween when she was about 5. Asthma can be very scary! My advice is to always be prepared! We don’t leave the house without a puffer. And I love her breathing machine! It has saved us many hospital stays. She is now 11.5 and pretty much manages her asthma herself. This time of year is bad though, and we also have trouble in January if the weather is dry.

Now on to the sketch. I loved both cards & the sketch. I am trying to make Thanksgiving cards. Hopefully if I make a few every few days, I will have enough to give to my family. We’ll see!?!?

Ellie makes an adorable bee! Sorry to hear about the asthma, but hope you are able to manage it ok. It’s not fun for anyone, but especially scary when the little ones have it. My DH has had it since a young child, but he is actually ok now that we live in the desert.

Loved your sketch and love that new MFT cupcake! Here’s my play:
